Hi everyone,

This question is directed mainly to traders who are trading the Japanese markets.

Are there any high volume ETFs listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange or Osaka Exchange? How about any that track stock indices such as Nikkei 225? I can't seem to find any good ETFs, because they all seem to be low on volume. I'm surprised, since there are so much highly liquid Japanese stocks - is there not much of a market for ETFs in Japan?

Are you even allowed to trade Japanese ETFs through IB? I don't see the Japanese exchanges listed under the ETFs section.

Thanks.

Dunno if you can trade these via a regular IB account. They have special Japanese domiciled accounts for trading Japanese securities. Maybe Nomura in Europe? I honestly don't think it's practical without a Japanese account.

1570 Nikkei Leverage is the biggest ETF.

BOJ is the major holder, and they are buying more all the time. In fact BOJ owns half of the ETF shares.

Nomura NF NikkeiAvg Leverage Index Link [AUTOLINK]ETF[/AUTOLINK] (1570.T) Chart| Reuters.com

Listing (take the four digit ETF codes on the left and plug into Reuters with a .T suffix, such as 1570.T and you can get the basic info in English)

ETF - Yahoo Japan

If you want trade Vol there is just one long ETF, 2035 (normally shadows the VIX but possibly a good Japanese earthquake play)

Nomura Europe Finance NV (2035.T) Chart| Reuters.com

Thanks a lot. I guess I'll just avoid the ETFs. I didn't really have any reason in particular to trade them - just wanted to see what was available.
