Does this exist: Software/service which searches for visually similar stock charts?
I am searching for a software / online tool / service that will do the following:
1. Consider you have stock XYZ, and you want to find the closest match to this stock, in terms of visual appearance of its chart for the latest X number of days.
2. Stock XYZ will then be visually compared to all other stocks from the same stock exchange - or even on any exchange.
3. The search algorithm identifies the stocks with the closest match to the XYZ stock.
Maybe I am not explaining this very good, so just to clarify:
You have a 60-day chart for a the XYZ stock, and you want to find other patterns that are most identical to this pattern. Let's say the best match found was the stock ABC a few years back, and imagine putting the XYZ chart on top of the ABC chart - and they would be almost identical.
By looking at the ABC chart one could predict the future of the XYZ chart.
So far, this idea sounds stupid. But just imagine you did not just find one stock with a similar pattern to XYZ, but many similar stocks. It would be even better if the software could do more advanced searches that also looked for the closest correlation on many levels beyond just the chart pattern. Imagine finding the most similar chart pattern where there were also similarities to the sector chart, market chart and even insider trades and fundamentals like P/E and other stuff.
Is there any service or software that will perform searches like this?
Do a futures.io (formerly BMT) search for correlation or correlated and you'll find some threads to get you started.

Need help? 1) Stop changing things. No new indicators, charts, or methods. Be consistent with what is in front of you first. 2) Start a journal and post to it daily with the trades you made to show your strengths and weaknesses. 3) Set goals for yourself to reach daily. Make them about how you trade, not how much money you make. 4) Accept responsibility for your actions. Stop looking elsewhere to explain away poor performance. 5) Where to start as a trader? Thanks Mike, correlation is the keyword, but I've searched for weeks for a software or service that can do what I am suggesting here, and found nothing yet.
One more example just to make it clear what I am looking for. Let's say you have a 70-day candlestick chart from the Google stock, where the latest day in the chart was today. Then the algo would search for any visually similar 70-day candlestick chart since, say 1997, within that time frame. You would probably find a few very similar 70-day candlestick charts (and Ideally the algo should also check for similarities in the sector and market for the same time frame as the current chart, and even fundamental factors.)
I don't know if this would have any real application value to my trading, but still I think something like this would be the coolest stock tool ever created.. now just need to find it!
thanks cory, never heard of stockflix.com before, signed up to their free trail now. It's along the lines of what I was describing, but much simpler than what I had in mind.
Combine the stockflix search with more detailed charts, add some fundamental data to the search, then search for the most similar stock charts through a given time frame in history, users can select which charts to use (bar charts, lines, candlestick, etc), search on any exchange, and don't even stop there, give or take extra points for similarities in the sector and the market at the current time as well. You get the idea. I don't think any service like this exists...?
