When in adversity , don't speak of it ; you will make others unhappy. When in prosperity , don't speak of it ; you will also make others unhappy.

traders die from lack of knowledge and understanding and aplication there of

trade guro's wanting to sell you something thrive from a lack of knowledge gained by Iron sharpening Iron , Trader sharpening Trader

check out the thread below

Not sure Big Mike still considers himself a day trader. He now is a proponent of big charts, Daily 240 minutes, he says his lowest chart now is 60 min. I would assume with these size charts you would have to hold overnight and/or perhaps multiple days. That would fall more into the swing trading category.

Can someone explain why so many people lose their money day tradin if SEC requires 25k account min. Do they turn to swing trading after they can't meet minimum?

Thanks

I think that generally people lose their money coz they dont have a good system, dont let their profits run and overtrade.

All i know is this :

as a newbie , having read books over 5 years , investigated systems , methods and indicators and using sim , and then going live coz i thought i had a clue!- i learned so damn quick that i didnt have a clue , i lost 25% of my stake in a pretty short time and have learned more in that few months than over the whole last 5 years. now i am holding my own and clawing it back bit by bit .

i think advice is a dangerous thing even from the wise to the wise so i dont use it , i will live or die by own system and you will too!

Best of luck!

Bcoz they have less than 25k....

So they go & trade futures, which are much riskier but where the SEC doesn't require you to have $25,000 or even $2,500...

It's madness really.

Exactly, the margins on futures is insane for someone starting out who is a beginner.

1. Many are called, few are chosen. A few can ... many can't.

2. Once they lose most of their account, they switch to Futures with a $5k minimum to open an account.

3. When they lose most of that account, they open an account with a Forex dealer and trade micro lots.

4. When they lose that account, they switch to trading SIM, start a Trading Journal, expound upon the genius of their trading philosophy into perpetuity , post all their "Wins" and generate smirks, snickers, derision and raised eyebrows from experienced traders.

5. Once they get banned from their trading board, they open a Trading room, sell a training course and offer their "proprietary indicators" that they copied from the Elite Section of futures.io (formerly BMT).

And there you have it....

This is too funny... I feel exposed now. I just started a journal for the March challenge. Well, I am still slightly profitable, but who knows what may happen and I may be forced to sell my indicators for food and gas.
