Im able to run full Sierra. I was trying Wine, but that wasnt successful. Crossover uses wine as well, but it is working. You just have to create new win 10 bottle and install it there. There is search function for application to install and its working really nice.

You still have to pay for Crossover, but it should be less expensive then Parallels as far as I know and I have better experience then vmware.

IMO SierraChart is great for futures while ToS is great for Stocks/Options.

@Arch I have never used ToS, is it stable? And is it fast?

To put in my two cents, ToS was designed for and by options traders, and when I used it, several years ago now, the diagnostics were extremely good for the trader in stock and ETF options. When it was introduced it was a good interface for options traders and OK for stock traders. When I came to it I was interested in options and it seemed to fit what I needed. Tom Sosnoff was one of the owners, and a lot of options expertise had been put into it.

On the other hand, when I left, it was slow, the charts didn't go back very far if you used tick charts, the tick chart data was filtered, so you didn't get all the ticks, just a sampling -- a serious failing even at the time -- and the commissions were very high. It also had a lot of out of memory issues that kept slowing it down if you had very much going on in terms of charts.

It has the advantages and disadvantages of a broker-owned platform. Everything is integrated in one place, which is a plus if you want simplicity. But you are stuck with one broker. I will say the charts are pretty.

Bottom line, I don't know if it is still a good stock/ETF options platform in today's world, but that was its strength at the time. I had become less happy with it due to performance issues, and I was moving away from options anyway. It may still be good for that. I would not go back to it again for futures.

These are just my two cents, of course, and it's been several years since I used them, so all this may have changed.

thanks a lot for the detailed answer, I didn't even know that there could be "filtered" chart data. I tried ToS just on a sim trial version, and it looked great for options trading but there was just too much information in the platform, and I thought it could be misleading.
I was considering though, to use it for trading stocks but for what you say it is not that fast.

Been with SC for 10yrs, using on iMac5K using Parallels 15, 8GB dedicated RAM on Windows 10 side, zero issues. Last year SC did a major backbone change that took my charts that were about 2GB and dropped them down 90% in size, fan doesn’t even run now it’s so seamless. Wish they would enter the 21st century with UI, but the bottom line is extremely rock solid, virtually no problems for me using Infinity Futures as broker, and most of my trading is ES scalping, so I would know if there was lag or issues getting filled. Bottom line: You do NOT need a PC to run SC, just have the latest Parallels and you will be fine. FYI I have TOS running on the Mac side simultaneously for a couple of things, no issues.

I came form ToS and just trying Sierra Charts but, WOW, what a platform! I just downloaded it a week ago and still haven't even scratched the surface of what this program can do.

Just curious, I am using it on a Mac using Parallels, are there any issues using it this way?

I retire in about 2 years and am papertrading on ToS but once I retire I will switch to Sierra charts and go live. Do I need to get a PC or will a Mac with Parallels work just as well?

In my first response I missed the part about you paper trading on TOS. Couple things to know: 1. TOS has some nice charts, but you WILL get slipped pretty badly if you trade live. 2. When papertrading, TOS (at least in the past) would “fill” you the second your price is hit, which is very unrealistic. SC on the other hand when sim trading is very realistic, puts your order in the cue and a lot of times you won’t get filled on your exit or entry, just like real life. Point is, if you are sim trading with TOS it is not giving you the stats that will transfer over to real trading; SC does a far better job, and their replay function is very customizable.
