I dont use Amp, I have an account with IB and trying to find the best data combination. Seems like the Sierra real time data is the one to use.

Oh sorry my mistake
SC Package 3 with realtime and history data are free on CQG platform for AMP customers only.

Yes with IB you have to subscribe SC package 3 which I see is $24/mo.

Anyway it is still cheap. Only 2 ES ticks.

Sierra is without any doubt the most versatile retail level trading app you can get. It also is *not* based on a bit bulky .Net it is a pure native C/C++ which I really appreciate with my 30+ years of experience from the programming languages, application development and environments.

IB's own TWS does of course the job but ohh boy how badly it is outdated and slow. TWS usability and user experience is from the past century. And then there is that data problem...

I recommend the free SC trial; preferably together with the low-cost trial of the SC RT data feed so
that you see the difference vs e.g. IB data only. In my experience that period will suffice for testing
if your exact config works as needed.

And yes: SC's description of the IB connection acts as a deterrent. But if you follow the instructions
it should be onetime nausea and then it's done

Only $15 a month if you pay 12 month upfront

100% agree.

The substandard IB trading platform and data is more than compensated for by the superior account management facility, support, and from what Ive heard ...good fast reliable trade routing.

IB is a great account platform. You can trade allmost any imaginable instrument available from one simple "universal" account. Comissions are low. Execution quality is good. So from this point of view it is very close to perfect.

Ok I understand.

What I've been told AMP's risk control is centralized in Chicago with no servers elsewhere. This means there is allways a need to send packets cross atlantic.

Anyway if you can receive quotes "locally" (which I think in this situation is the case) it alone is an advantage. So it is a definitely recommended action to try CTS or Rithmic. No doubt.

Last time when I was using Rithmic I saw lot of packets going/coming to/from US while trading. I monitored the traffic by the Wireshark utility. Disclaimer: I hope there was no misconfiguration from my side

If someone could do the same with CTS the feedback/experiences would be very interesting to hear.

I fully understand that in most of the cases the impact of being the risk control in US may be quite low. I mean is it really bad thing for your realized expectancy. The answer is very much up to the trading system you run.

Yes, you are right, the risk controls are in the USA. But again, this is because the data providers choose it as such, and I dont think its the decision of the FCM. Again, this is as far as I know.

I would be more than happy to provide you with ademo any data available.

Thank you,

Matt Z

Thanks for the offer. Maybe it's better to use live account because often the server for demo setup is different. Anyway it takes some time and energy to do these tests so maybe later.

Your conclusion is right.

Companies may separate between their demo traders and live traders as they don't want the one who do not trade utilizing all the bandwidth resources from the live trading pipes because it could affect latency.

Hey @choke35 do I have to run the TWS software in order to connect to IB through Sierra?

Normally Yes.

If I remember right you have an another option too: You can run "IB Gateway" which is GUI-less interface application.
