Hey @choke35 do I have to run the TWS software in order to connect to IB through Sierra?

Yes and no.

You need a connection to IB (TWS is a simple and cheap way to do that) in order to
a) place your live trades
b) pass the regular account validations if you want to take advantage of e.g. the CME waivers.

No insofar as you can also use SC without a connection to a trade service plus there are other IB interfaces that you
could use (which are more expensive and/or more complicated).

?

Ive just had a frustrating morning setting this all up with sierra live data thats all.
I suppose it doesn't matter, thankfully TWS doesn't impact system resources in any way .

Have you tried IB Gateway ?

It should eat less your system resources than TWS. Should be a bit more stable too.

I haven't yet but thank you for pointing it out to me. I spent ages this morning reading through a vast amount of mambo jumbo setup instructions on the Sierra website....swearing at Sierra and TWS for not working until I eventually discovered that I had a document 'pending approval' on my IB profile. So once my personal details had been confirmed for the umpteenth time I was able to login with no hassle. The rage was strong this morning but I hit the gym and am feeling better now.

OT:
Yeah gym/training is good. I do it 5 times aweek (70% cycling, 30% muscles). I just came out from Sauna which I see is an another edge

For me at the age of 50 keeping my physical condition in a good shape and eating healthy food not forgetting the mental side (training) is extremely important to survive in the streets

I couldn't agree more. I focus heavily on lumbar exercise and core strength workouts. Both my older boys have 6 packs so although I tell them I dont care about the cosmetic look at my age (41) Im actually secretly trying to get my abs to show through again. I have to maintain cardio due to my 13 year old constantly challenging me to a 100m sprint. Problem is I just barely beat him so in preparation for the day he smokes me in the sprint I have been secret training with squash and badminton because lets face it, as we get older we gotta move to more strategy type challenges to maintain our superiority

Love a bit of spinning and Pilates

Please keep us updated on the IB / sierra as I'm looking at this as a possible solution when the time comes.

I have used NinjaTrader and IB data for years.
Ninja is free, as long as you do not trade with it. If you want to trade via IB, you need Bracket Trader.
This all works great as long as you don't need ticks. There is no historical tick data via IB.
You have to have your PC on 24 h/d (even during holiday's) if you need tickdata.
That was for me reason to switch to Sierra Chart. Via Infinity Futures you can have SC including data for free, if you do 20 rt trades /month. Otherwise you pay $20/month.
For me, this is the perfect solution. At the moment you turn on SierraChart you have all ticks ( historical and realtime) available.
