Hi There,

Has anyone tested and compared the different data feeds for Sierra Charts?

Best Feed?

Best Value?

Any difference?

Thanks

I did for some time, but flipped to IQ because Sierra had issue with packet loss. Lately, they send me an email that they acknowledged the packet loss, and made some changes to their network and claim that it is almost 0%. I took a trail and for two weeks, only one day I noticed packet loss, and it was minor but if you trade with tick or volume bar you really want the best, and as for now IQ is serving me really well. Although I must say is overpriced. If you are not into scalping and taking anything from 5 to 20 trades in session, then save some of your money. If you do scalp and and take more than average number of trades then go all the way IQ Feed.

Do you automate your trading Sierra Charts?

Looking at Sierra and Amibroker deeply.

When did you notice the packet loss this year 2016?

SC data vs IQ feed data show different bid/ask allocations, thus give different volume delta numbers.

^I believe this is an issue with Equities only.

Alex, there is no "best"

We have hooked up Sierra to every possible feed including Rithmic, CQG, and TT.
Recently we even had request for CTS.

People at times switch from one feed to another based on location, server side OCO, server side bracket side OCO, data feed cost, ability to connect to a number of machines, etc. and/or other factors.

We talk to each customer before they hook up Sierra, and recomnded accordingly.

Our claim was and is correct.

You were experiencing 2 problems in the past. There was at times, not often, some very minor packet loss due to the Barchart network. This was causing inconsistency with historical data on our servers. This inconsistency was solved and at the same time the packet loss went to nearly 0%.

Here is the actual packet loss for last week (NY: 2016-03-14 09:00:00 - 2016-03-18 23:59:59):

CME Channels (Excluding CBOT, NYMEX, COMEX)
Packets received: 211903152
Packets lost: 263

This is below .000124% and is acceptable. This is not going to cause anyone a problem. And it should not cause you a problem either.

If this is causing you a problem, then we do not see how that is reasonable. How can a loss of 263 packets which most will be from market depth, out of 211,000,000 cause a problem?

If you were experiencing a problem relating to a small loss of data from the transition between historical data to real-time data, then that is something we have solved a few weeks ago. This is something that would also occur with IQ Feed although it may not have been as noticeable because IQ Feed historical data delivery is slow. We now inserted delay before starting a historical data download to prevent this.

All UDP data feeds like the CME feed do at times experience packet loss and it is unavoidable. If you are trying to get literally to 0%, it will never happen and we do not know what would even be achieved.

Regarding the inconsistency between historical data on our servers we had in the past, at the end of the day, we would make the data consistent between servers if there was a significant difference.

And you also have to consider latency. The Sierra Chart data feed is extremely low latency. We have not compared to IQ Feed but we would suspect it is even faster. This is going to be in the millisecond range.

Certainly the historical data delivery is considerably faster than IQ Feed.

No, I do not Automate, I manual trade from the chart naked PA. I noticed it back in September 2015.
But as I said, from my 2 week trial In January everything was exactly the same as IQFeed to the tick apart from only one day when the market was really fast and the differences on the tick charts where some bars closing with one tick difference compared with IQ Feed. But the overall number of bars where exactly the same. As for the other days, there were no differences at all.

And as sierra pointed out, If for whatever reason you decide to reload with IQfeed historical data especially during RTH, you are gonna wait..
