Yes I was using wine 1.6. I tried installing 1.4 using apt-get but it kept on saying that 1.6 would be installed. I couldn't figure out how to install 1.4. So eventually I installed playonlinux which makes it easier to work with different versions of wine. I installed Sierra through that and then told it to use wine1.5.
It's working now. Awesome Im one step closer to moving everything over to linux.
(really hoping Sierra brings out that linux version they've been promising for ever)

i play with Sierra chart on Ubuntu/wine, and all things work awesome! But, if i try to connect Rithmic Papaper, I get this:
(the wine compatibility mode is Win 7, but dosn't work with any other)
Have some idea, how can I fix it?

That's strange. You might want to try an older version of wine. I've found that sometimes things that work perfectly fine with one version of wine don't work with another. Over the last couple years i've found Wine 1.7 and 1.8 to work best with most things. Might be worth a try.
I do not mean to hijack the thread, so let me know if I do.
I am running Linux Mint 19.3. I do not use Wine due to security issues that it brings to linux.
I am using VirtualBox with Windows 10 as guest. You can install Windows 10 without license (some features wont be available), it is totally legit.
There is multi monitor support if you install VirtualBox extension pack and guest additions. (Can provide more info if anybody is interested.)
The downside of this approach you need to have enough memory and CPU power to run everything you need.
Looking forward to have SC on Linux when it is implemented.
It is doable, but I have found this to be a pain in the long run, as time is money to me. A $200 Windows license every 4-5 years is pocket change. Microsoft offers pre-built VBox virtual machines, which is helpful.
I don't expect SC to come to Linux or any other OS anytime in the near or far future. There is an appeal to those Linux users (I am an occasional user and enthusiast, mostly through VirtualBox), but it is not practical from a business perspective. VBox is a great solution if you are dedicated to the Linux cause.
VPS is a better overall solution for us, but we are algo traders, so uptime is very important.
I also jumped through the SC-on-linux hoops for a while. At the end of the day, it's just not worth it. And I agree, SC devs will never bring SC to linux--ever. Why would they? Not enough demand, UI is fully windows-dependent.
