It looks like finally someone took the initiative and started creating comprehensive instructional videos for Sierra chart. Optimus Futures Created and uploaded those Videos to their YouTube Channel:

YouTube

As of now those Videos already cover most of the basics plus some of the advanced features of Sierra Chart like Volume Profiles and FootPrint Charts.

My understanding is that Optimus are planning to add more Videos and are also open for requests for specific topics.

Thanks Optimus and please keep this going. I believe those Videos can really help traders get going with Sierra Chart.

Thanks, Yonatan, for the kind words!

I just wanted to throw it out there, for any futures.io (formerly BMT) members, if there are any topics you are interested in, please let us know and we'll be happy to put something together.

Hi

I have recently started working with Sierra Charts and like them but I cannot figure out how to find a description of user submitted studies or how to download them or how to download a study like Ichimoku.

I have read thru Sierra's site but it did not help. Does anyone have other instructions or is there an Optimus video? Or could there be an Optimus video??

Thanks Squeeze

1) download ichimoku collection by just clicking on it Additional Files (Study Collections, Spreadsheets, Chartbooks) - Sierra Chart
2) move it to data file folder, scroll to middle Study Collections - Sierra Chart
3) apply it to a chart, scroll to top Study Collections - Sierra Chart

Here is the link to the Instrctional Videos that Optimus created:
Sierra Chart - YouTube

Also, when you download a custom study check if it ends with .cpp or .dll

If it is a .dll file then just throw it to the data folder.
If it is a .cpp file then you will have to save it to the ACS_SOURCE folder and you will have to build it:
Analysis >> Build Custom Studies DLL and then select the file and click Build Custom Study DLL.

In order to load a custom study to your chart click on the chart in order to select it and then press the F6 key. this will bring the studies window. Now click the Add Custom Study button and choose and add the study.

hi Yonatan

ok between you and cory I am getting there - thanks

I think it is a dll file, but scsf_SenkouSpanC ends in a cpp?

so when you say "throw it to the data folder' what does that mean?

do I cut and paste the code ?

thanks

Hi Squeeze,

When I wrote "Throw it to the data folder" I meant that you have to save it in the data folder.

I am not sure that I understand what you are trying to do. Is there a specific custom study that you are trying to add?

If "scsf_SenkouSpanC" is the name of the study and it ends with .CPP then follow the previous instructions regarding .cpp files.

BUT usually the scsf_...... is the name of the study function as it appears within the code and the name of the study doesn't often have the "scsf" so I am a bit confused as to what you are trying to do.

Please help me understand :-)

There is just no way to find out what you want in SC on day one. It is like entering Disney park for the first time, should I go left, right or follow that shiny balloon. But once you figure out what are cpp, dll, how to compile, indicator properties then SC is rather easy and enjoyable.
