Why I gravitate towards using Sierra Charts

1) How long have you been using Sierra Chart?
Off and on for about a year; but consistently for the last 3 months.

2) What are your favorite features of Sierra Chart?
Volume by Price is included by default.

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in Sierra Chart that you could not do without?
Volume by Price indicator.

4) Do you use Sierra Chart in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
I have not place a live trade with it thus far.

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does Sierra Chart help you with this?
Discretionary. There are excellent studies included to help with interpreting price.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use Sierra Chart?
There are many features; I am still learning them; but I am able to find what I need most times without documentation.

7) How do you rate Sierra Chart's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
I have not needed to use it. (other than attempting to extend a demo trial)

8) Do you believe Sierra Chart is competitively priced?
Yes.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for Sierra Chart?
I use youtube to learn new features. I am a visual learner.

sierra charts

Thanks for the link
I no longer use sierra charts.Their customer support is very challenging to deal. I learnt by hit and trial the sierra chart studies and indicators. The account tab is another challenge to understand and I wish it was made simple like any other platforms. Then in the middle of no where the software begins to update which is very frustrating.

Thanks

Why I use Sierra Charts

I started using Sierra charts because of the order flow number bars they provide. But everything you stated is so true and if it wasn't for the help from Jake at Optimus futures I would have stopped. Sierra charts have a lot of very useful technical indictor's but the customer service has a long way to go. There is help from a site named Emoji trading but its a bit pricey.
The help I got from Optimus futures was incredible and free. How they can provide all the assistance with platforms and training for no cost is a bit bewildering to me , especially because there commission cost are so competitive.

Thanks for asking,
Ruben

P.S. I'm not affiliated in anyway to Optimus futures, I'm just telling it like it is !

Ruben,

Thank you for your kind words, and I will share this post with Jake. What we do for Sierra, we do for every platform. We create the videos and the guides to cover the most fundamental uses of the platform. We appreciate the support that the software trading companies give us (Anthony from Sierra made an effort to provided us with all the recent updates that we turned into the list you posted), but we also try to be the first line of support for our customers.

My advice to beginner traders is not to try and learn every single feature of their platform because it is unnecessary and quite frankly takes you away from your main focus of lerning the markets. Study the order executions on the platform, the DOM functionalities, and the charts features you need. As you grow your trading skills, you may need additional features that are probably on the platform already. My opinion is that most traders need maybe 20% of any given trading software (at most) to be efficient traders.

Why Pay for horrible Customer Service with Sierra Chart

Frankly after a week and a half of trying to setup their 'free' trail, I am not sure why people will actually go with Sierra Chart vs other platforms.

There customer service is horrendous (and that's putting it nicely).

Their setup process and documentation is not straight forward. If you have a questions and submit a ticket (only form of communicating with them - no email and no phone# to call), they will response with cryptic short messages with links to their not so clear information pages. And if you keep asking for clarification you get responses like:
  • "You know you really are not paying attention to basic facts which are right in front of you"
  • "Anyway, we are going to cancel the data feed because it is just a waste of time and you obviously are not paying attention"
  • "Look at all of the nonsense and time that we put up with related to this."

Yes, those were actual response from them.

SC expects you to be self-service but they don't even have a video library showing you how to setup or use any of their functionalities. And their informational pages are long and not too straight forward as I mentioned. And it doesn't help that their site looks like my 8 yr old created it. Extremely outdated and so is their GUI. But I was willing to give them a shot, after all its all the functionality under the hood that you keep hearing about that you're interested in right! It's what's on the inside that counts, right

Seriously, why would anyone pay for such customer service (or lack of)?

oh and their "free" trial is really not free, unless, you're only interested in Forex or cryto trading (I think) and will have limited functions. But if you're interested in futures trading you'll have to pay $5 for a week of data for the "CME with Market Depth for nonprofessional Trading accounts" but this price price is only valid if you link a funded account to Sierra Chart, else you have to pay the $42 for the data. So not exactly 'free' is you ask me.

So what does Sierra Chart have that others don't? I keep reading 'TPO' and 'Footprint' but doesn't NinjaTrader have that? and am sure others do too.

Unless, they have a feature that you must absolutely have to have and nobody else has it... and you accept the fact that you'll be on your own with no "customer service" from them. Then, I'll would just stay away from them.
