Won't it be too late to modify it once the stop has been triggered, ie it will usually be filled in milliseconds?

Yes, usually, unless a negative stop limit is used as is said and is also supported by the trading system or the market is moving so fast and moves beyond the limit price. In that case you may want to modify it.

As if by magic, or perhaps divine inspiration, I found a setting in Sierra under "General Settings" that allows the user to change the chart update interval. I changed this from 500ms to 1ms, and look at her go now!!!!

T&S, NT on left, Sierra on right:
2012-08-20_1130 - joshtrader's library

Sierra DOM:
2012-08-20_1133 - joshtrader's library

Chart:
2012-08-20_1156 - joshtrader's library

So it appears that Sierra is actually faster than NT, not the other way around as I originally thought. NT also has an update interval but the minimum is 100ms, FWIW.

Feeling quite the doofus right now, I ask myself: do I have the courage to try Sierra for real? The answer is YES! I will try it this week on sim, and see how it goes. Still lots of learning to do, but as it stands, Ninja has to show me something pretty spectacular (note that I do own a ninja lifetime license and wish I could have that option for sierra).

Use TOS for charting futures but after getting acquainted with SC, I use SC for my charting. TOS just recently added the ability to draw a trendline on tick charts as well as add range charts that user could choose tick and size of tick range.

There are studies on SC that are not available on TOS - clear swing line is one that comes to mind.

Noticed on some of the sshots the red and green lines on the DOM - what do they represent and how do you have them show on the DOM.

There were some additional features on the DOM - where would one go to activate the features?

Overall, after learning how to set up the charts and with responses from the Support Board as well as SC members, it is like the feel of an old shoe -- GOOD!!

You probably mean the ChartDOM -- I think you are referring to the bid/offer column lines. Trade -> Trading Chart DOM On

designing and testing strategies on a live account is a big part of what I do.
Being able to look over the results of all of the trading done later on is very important to me.
In MC, I can only look over the performance report if the strategy , chart is still connected.
That is a large sore spot. Of course you can export everything to excel.

In NT , it is very easy to go over reports of all of the trading done. Very robust performance reports. This essential to strategy development.

SC, I have trouble figuring out where to find any kind of performance reports, or to view them.
When I asked on the support forum, they just give a link to the manual. That did not help.

If I was just trading and charting, then SC has wonderful charting capabilitie. And you cant beat the price, especially with the market profile capabilities.

It seems I need several platforms to fill all of my needs

Also, I use thinkorswim as the base of all programs. Of course, that I use for options and they have a pretty good charting capability and organized workspaces. But being Java based, it acts up and freezes alot. I cannot use it to trade futures at all.

Hi Josh,

I primarily use X_Trader but here's the DoM I have for Sierra. I think it's excellent from what I've seen so far.

How did you get rid of the block of options on the left? I am looking to make this smaller/customize it, or remove it, depending on my options.

Thanks.

I think you are looking for: Trade->Attach Trade Window to Chart Window, which you can then close if you like.

Thats great, thank you.

Is there a way to customize what is displayed in that 'trade window', or alter its size?

You can click on the tab labeled 'C' for compact. I believe that is all you can do to make it smaller.

Thats what it seems like to me, also.

Thanks for the response.
