Hi

I am a new user of both Sierra charts and IQ Feed data. I am enjoying using both to date but have obviously found some differences from other packages that i have used in the past.

A question i have in regards to when you enter a symbol into Sierra such as QCL# which would be the front contract for crude oil. My problem is that Sierra charts doesn't actually tell you what that contract is - it just says crude oil futures front month - NYMEX. So how are you supposed to know exactly what contract it is displaying? You would think as an example that it would say crude oil futures june 2012 and then when it rolls to the next contract it would state the new front month contract.

Am i missing something here?

Thanks

Michael

You can just bring up an individual contract, like CLM12 for June 2012 for example, and then look at price and see if it matches the continuous contract.

Yeah thanks for that Big Mike, obviously can be done this way but can be time consuming checking, especially if you are trading multiple futures symbols.

If you are trading you probably want to have the bid and ask on the chart from your execution feed anyway. If they don't match last from IQfeed, then you know to update the execution symbol. I don't find it to be cumbersome at all.

In NinjaTrader and MultiCharts you can have a 'scanner' window, where a front-month is listed and that way you know when to switch (volume takes over).

I don't see an equivalent feature in Sierra Chart, but I guess if you use the CLR version you could make a spreadsheet study to do the same thing, it just would look ugly compared to NT and MC.

SC provides free real time and daily forex data Sierra Chart Real Time and Historical Forex and [AUTOLINK]CFD[/AUTOLINK] Data Service. For futures data I am getting 18 months of historical daily data.

I use daily bars with IQFeed and have no problem. What kind of issue are you having?

Mike, what data feed are you using for your daily charts into Sierra?

Are you using the SC Historical data?

I am currently using IQ feed. I have been experiencing a couple of problems -

1. They have a routine of taking out the daily bar shortly after close for a period of time and then replacing it once it has been processed. I have noticed this particularly on the mini's such as es, nq etc.

2. Also, on occasion I get a double a double up of bars. Like this morning (your afternoon) I was looking at QRB#C and i was getting 2 bars for today's bar (USA - 05/22). I tried doing a delete and refresh data but it didnt get rid of it. It finally disappeared after the night session opened.

Thanks

MS

I am using IQFeed. I have not noticed what you are describing. I am using 24 hour charts.
