I love the elder scrolls games too. I prefer it's old school rpg traditions compared to overgore and thrash from other games like those new Bioware-Dragonage games. What those old Balder's gate games should have evolved into. But it seems Bethesda and their Elder Scrolls "Arena" world has always been in a class by itself.
One aspect I enjoy immensely is the great nature and world immersion. Walking (or in some cases jumping flying) through wilderness , riverbanks, glaciers, blowing snowy mist off snow banks in the cliffs. Did you fellow Skyrim players see the aurorea borealis nighttime. With the large moon it's just stunning. Beats many space themed wallpapers. I went walking my character as far north along the artic like cracked ice as I could. Kind of like screwing up the old games going off the boundaries. Or thinking about other fiction like Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, or Namor the Submariner's parents. One early dungeon had a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" intro reference; you'll see what I mean if you get to it. . There's Basil Poledourous like "Conan" music reminscent of Conan's childhood home and people. And then music like the Rohirrim music in LordOfTheRings: The Two Towers.
And the world itself has evolved. I was suprised it was 200 years after the last game. Interesting how it's a world of a "fair" and "noble" Empire. And the cat (khazit) people are so cute and fun. (Man-Kzin wars, or Kilrathi) And they now have actual dog companions too. (was hoping for a husky) . But now that's all coming apart since your old npc friend, Emperor Uriel Septim VII is long gone and his lineage ended.
Kind of close to a holodeck experience for a personal computer system as one can get so far. Like taking a visual breath of air in a virtual nature park. (I can drive to the beach but it's always so dang crowded , overparked, overtraffic jammeds, and with yuppies). Like playing out a fantasy or sci-fi book. I look forward to one day , they do ElderScrolls Wii, or have crops futures trading implemented in the game haha!
Yeah I read about horror stories on PS3 version. I bought the X360 version luckily. Almost bought the PS3 version but decided the 360 would get more testing and quicker DLC, so went with it. 360 version definitely is not perfect, but not nearly as bad as the PS3.
Hopefully in another month or two they finally work out all these bugs. A very buggy game.
minerim - reminds me of the outskirts of Arena when you push the boundaries of the field, the 3d blocks get all screwed up. And wierd displays of tile blocks start appearing.
girl singer: she's an Imperial loyalist ; liked how she mixed one of the memorable outdoor themes into the refrain.
electric guitar video; Nice combo riff of the Dragonborn Comes and the 'Septims' theme.
I was surprised by the Dwemer dungeons, saw a real nice one. Very much like Morrowind . Glad they brought those back and ditched the Ayelid stuff for Skyrim.
