So how was it?

Mike

I'm still in Vegas until midnight.
The Expo was pretty good but I've traded for many years so it is hard to tell what would be interesting to new traders as compared to my preferences.

For the most part the breakout sessions are 'selling sessions' for the speakers indicators or methods. (Website/forums/chat rooms). There is nothing wrong with that. Most of them were not pushy at all but just gave a speech with comments about their services.

Several of the sessions were very good and worth the price (free).
I did not attend any 'pay' sessions because they did not appeal to my methods and most of the stuff seemed as if it would be available online or else where for less.

The CME sponsored events were my favorites.
Live trading events were good to see actual trading and watch the speaker put his $$ on the line while hawking his methods.

I attended one session with Al Brooks and that was very interesting since he said he has a new book coming out. He acknowledged that his previous book was difficult to read and says that the new one will be 'trader friendly'.

I met several traders in person and that was the best part of the expo but none of them were from futures.io (formerly BMT).

The Expedition area (vendors showing their products) was a very good way to see a lot of trading systems/methods/services and have some 'hands-on' time with them. Some show specials were offered but nothing spectacular. There was a traders bookstore there and they were offering a discount on orders and some book signings by the authors. (They have an offer code on orders that is valid for a few more days if anyone is interested pm me.)

My favorite part of the trip was the gold prospecting. I met my son here and we have taken one trip into the dessert seeking that yellow stuff and will do it again today. Lot's of fun and many places nearby to enjoy the day looking for nuggets and flakes. <there are a lot of flakes on the streets in Vegas but that is another story >

I almost hate to get on the plane tonight... I needed the break.

How was the MultiCharts booth? Was NinjaTrader there? Anything interesting on platforms?

MultiCharts and Ninja were there.

The Ninja Booth had several of the guys that moderate the forum.

MultiCharts offered an 'at the show' discount but I don't remember the quote.
Their platform looks pretty good.
The personnel were very informative but seemed short on demo machines at the show.
The ThinkOrSwim booth seemed to have a lot of $$ behind the display. Large 50" or larger displays, large working demo touch screens and smaller systems also. If they were not so pricey on their commissions I would probably still be a customer. They are one of the few that have a good Android/Iphone app for charting.

Did you see the MultiCharts DOM in action?

Was NinjaTrader talking about a release date for 7 or make any other announcements?

Ninja booth was showing the NT7 Beta but unless you asked, it was as if it was a completed system.
When I asked for the coming out date, "early next year" was the answer.

Multicharts platform seems very similar to NT. It uses Easy Language (they call it Power Language).
The DOM and most features are 'very' similar to NT. There are tabs at the top of the platform that show the broker connection and they seem to be able to connect to many data sources at the same time.

The rep I spoke with said they were in the process of moving the most of their operation into the US.
(Columbus Ohio). He said that was not complete but the CEO has nearly completed the move.

Of all the platforms at the Expo, Multicharts seemed to be a good competitor in the charting platform arena.

I've asked to be contacted when things settle down (Expo/Thanksgiving) and I'm sure they will. I will keep you posted.

The Multicharts booth was just OK, I agree with the previous poster in that they could have used another workstation and big screen. The DOM was pretty cool looking, only looked at it briefly though, it does recenter itself rather than fixed, they told me about patents they had to deal with regarding that. The manual order entry looked ok, the buttons looked a little basic but it now has tabs at the top that show which account you are trading in if you have multiple accounts you trade in/for. The show special for a lifetime license was $1297. I bought a copy and was able to get an additional $50 off from Mark Noel.

I also bought a one year subscription to TASC for 35 bucks. I went and saw a few speakers I was only there for 1 day though. I didn't realize that Michael Covel was going to speak on Friday and I would have liked to have heard him. I know that Multicharts was going to do a session on Saturday I believe so maybe someone can speak to that.

Thanks James. Did you meet Dennis or Stan from MultiCharts? Any other booths and/or products worth mentioning? Did you have a chance to attend Al Brooks seminar?

As far as MultiCharts DOM, there is a recent discussion about it in the MultiCharts thread and on their blog, I think it will be "good enough" for what is essentially a v1.0 DOM, and then I look for them to make considerable adjustments after listening to feedback for their next release, which usually comes in about 6 month intervals it would seem.

after the AMTD acquisition, TOS has more than plenty of funds to get things done when it comes to development and marketing... also, TOS will match the commissions if you ask them to do so, and you have the volume of course, and it will be the same for all futures from what I recall.. now, matching the options rate @ $1.4RT per car was much more difficult.. the best I was able to do there when I used them was $1.95RT..
