Hello everyone.

I have been trading futures for about six months now and keep having a consistent problem. Overtrading. Perhaps it is just too easy to press that button, especially when I am already up for the day. I'm very curious to hear if other have had the same problem and how they dealt with it. Overtrading hurts my trading more than anything else. It get even worse when I take a big hit and think that I'll somehow be able to dig myself out quicker. It is an interesting phenomenon for me to notice exactly what I'm doing wrong, yet be almost powerless to the emotions. So my questions follow. My current strategy consists of pullback in a trending market and scalping between high volume nodes in a sideways market. Today I took 66 trades and it was a trending market. I know this is way too much.

Is this something that just takes time and I'm being unreasonable to think it an easy fix?

Does anyone else have this issue and how do they deal with it?

My great and quick idea is to limit my trades to <=10 in a normal day. The idea being to be more selective and stay in the trades longer(also an issue of mine).

Thanks,
Keen

HI @Keenbreathy,

This is an important question, which deserves its own discussion.

I have opened a new thread for your question(s), which you can access by clicking here:

You may find that many people have had to struggle with this issue.

If you are using a speedy time frame then you may see too many opportunities with no real edge. Try to wait for certain levels to be hit before considering an opportunity such as VWAP or one of its standard deviation bands or any frame of reference you consider significant such as a high or low volume node. Consider yourself like a sniper. Helpful personal traits for snipers include stress tolerance, emotional stability and razor-sharp focus.

Thank you for that. I've actually never heard that analogy but the more I think about, the more and more it makes sense. A sniper does not spray bullets but puts extreme focus into a single shot, which increases the chances of a hit. I am now listing all the similarities and comparisons between trading and being a supreme marksman with the idea of improving each quality.

I havent seen this indicator before but was wondering if someone knows how to code in NT8 for placing an exact moving average line the exact tics away from another indicator(where the tics are adjustable)?
AND picking the indicator to follow is adjustable.

Is this a good idea?

Let me know...

Hi @BullHorn,

As it happens, there is an existing thread where traders can post requests for new NT indicators. I have copied your post there. You can access it by clicking on the box below:

This is a popular thread, so someone will likely see and reply to your post soon.

Howdy

I have searched the forum and couldn't find an answer. I would like to know if it is possible to buy within a certain number of bars after your entry signal? For example...I would like to buy after my signal within the next 4 bars after the signal, if not cancel the order. This is for Easylanguage on Tradestation.

Thanks you in advance

Hi @LeonTaiwan,

This does sound like something that can be programmed in EL. There is an active group of TradeStation EL programmers on the forum who can probably help with it.

I have opened a new thread in the EasyLanguage section with your question. I expect someone will take a look at it and may provide a reply. You can access it here:

One problem I've noted is that you have to give your bank the account and routing number from the wire instructions page on amp website, AND provide your trading account number. Otherwise AMP will charge you $30 to return your money to your bank.
