Hi,

How do you use IB Gateway? do you download this directly from the Interactive Brokers website? Can someone help me set this up? I currently use Ninjatrader and I've been having problems with my strategy as it keeps disconnecting me from IB. My screen shows my positions all closed out. I'm hoping that by using IB Gateway, it will prevent this from happening again. I look at daily charts and leave my pc on for weeks/ months. I heard that I would at least have to restart TWS once a week but if my I hold my position longer than that using a automated strategy I'm not sure how I can make it work. Please help. Thanks.

Yes, just do a google search "ib gateway windows" or "ib gateway linux" and you should get what you need from IB directly. There is no restart needed with ib gateway.

Keep in mind it's one or the other, you cannot use both IBG and TWS at the same time.

Mike

The IB Gateway will definitely help you resolve the disconnections and frequent restarts to the TWS platform you are facing today.
You don't have to download the gateway from a separate location; it is the same installation file that you have downloaded to install your TWS application.
You will get the option to select the modules you wish to install from the installation menu...

When you run the gateway for the first time, make sure you configure the socket port correctly, and put your computer's IP address in the trusted IP addresses window.
Then from the NinjaTrader's connection setup menu, you will have to use that same socket port number that you have configured in the gateway, and preferably put your computer's IP address as well instead of the default 127.0.0.1 in the Host field.

Good Luck

Yes, when you install TWS
On windows, you have only two check boxes I believe and the gateway is installed together with TWS.
On mac systems, you will have three check boxes and you get to explicitly chose to install the gateway.

It is a configuration thing sometimes not that obvious I admit.

If you want to share a screen shot of your IB connection configuration in NT7 and another snapshot of your Gateway settings then I can troubleshoot you on the spot.

Cheers

I am already connected to IB gateway but when I place an order under simulated account its giving me an error message saying that there is no market data to drive the simulated engine. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I think this is because you are logged in with your live account in TWS and at the same time with your sim account in IB Gateway.
Is that the case?
If yes, IB will not send you market data to both accounts simultaneously... you have to log out from one of them.

Is it possible to log into the live account and the sim account using the gateway and get data to both? You can with TWS.

If you are on the same computer, yes you can with TWS as you say
If you are on two different computers, then even TWS won't work...

I did not test with the TWS+Gateway, will have to do so tonight, and report back.
