It would seem that email alerts can and do work (get triggered) even when the computer is off, MC closed, and the corresponding workspace not open. Would be great to get confirmation as I won't have time until to fully test until next week.

I'm not sure where you got this information, I wasn't able to find it in that Help entry. As far as I know, and logic dictates that also, that alerts (whatever kind) are triggered when the script calculates, either on every tick or at the close of the bar. For that calculation to take place, MC needs to be open, data needs to be streaming, and the computer needs to be on.

Hm, good question. It seems that MultiCharts gives an alert with crosses above and crosses below when using an alert for an MA - the same logic seems to apply to a horizontal line (see attached image) and I guess other types of line as well. When using the "Mov Avg 2 Lines" you can get an alert when both moving average lines cross.

Anyway, to answer your question: as far as I know, you can't tell MC to give an alert with an downside or upside breach - by default MC gives an alert in both cases.

I don't know if MCDT has Market Replay, but alerts should also work in Market Replay mode.

Here is the script for the MA 1 line. You can see under what conditions the alert takes place.

Code
inputs:  Price( Close ), Length( 9 ), Displace( 0 ) ;
variables:  var0( 0 ) ;

var0 = AverageFC( Price, Length ) ;

condition1 = Displace >= 0 or CurrentBar > AbsValue( Displace ) ;
if condition1 then
	begin
	Plot1[Displace]( var0, "Avg" ) ;

	if Displace <= 0 then
		begin
		condition1 = Price crosses over var0 ;
		if condition1 then
			Alert( "Price crossing over average" )
		else
		begin
		condition1 =	Price crosses under var0 ;
		if condition1 then
			Alert( "Price crossing under average" ) ;
		end ;
		end;
	end ;
With access to PLE you can change these conditions. With using MCDT you can influence the condition only by changing the inputs that make up the average.

Wishful thinking on my part? And maybe based upon some assumptions...

Within the info provided by MC on email alerts, it states that users can stay informed regarding mkt conditions even while away from the computer.

I realize that it does not say computer on, MC workspace open...

However, earlier in the alerts description, it states that alert checking is performed when one of the following occurs, which to me means an "or" condition. One is that the workspace is opened... Doesn't sound like it would be required...

When a tree falls in the forest and no one is present, does it make a noise? Sort of the same here I guess. Bars are closing, just not on that person's MC, if it's not open... But the mkt action is happening.

Email alerts are most likely not going to interest the futures trader much, I understand. For those doing stock and options, there will be more interest.

What about daily alerts, based upon EOD data? For example, if the SPY closes at or below its 200 daily EMA, it would be nice to get an email. It is helpful to have such reminders when on travel or just too busy...

If this is possible now, that would be great. Alerts, email alerts and mobile ones in particular, can offer the most when one is away from their MC computers, their house even, on the road but would like to act on the news, which would entail getting to such a computer, turning it on...

ToS is able to do this, so it is possible and it would be fantastic if MC would take it to the next level.

MC has to be running and the indicator or strategy actively running to get alerts.

The only way other software gets around that is by doing server-side alerts, which is completely different than what MC offers.

Mike - Thank you. Makes sense...

I'll do my best to make time to open MC workspaces daily and possibly still leverage ToS for these purposes.

Hello,
Is it possible to connect multicharts with nanex data feed?

Nanex data feed is not currently supported. You can connect it yourself if you use our API. PM me for more info.

Note: It seems that Nanex and IQFeed are both products of Telvent/DTN. Maybe there are some similarities between their APIs.

In the MultiCharts 7 and MCDT webinar on this site, around 31 minutes, Stan clicks on a reserved word and in the Help window the related help is displayed. Quite a time saver! Does someone know how he does that? Perhaps it's a new MC7 feature, because in MC6 I can't bring up the help by clicking on a reserved word.

I believe you are talking about pressing F1 for help on a 'reserved word'.

Not complete what I meant, but it still gave me the answer. Thanks Mike!

As far as I can tell, what Stan meant in the presentation with clicking was first click on a reserved word, (so that the '|' is in the word) and then pressing F1 brings up the Help entry file. No more need to browse through the 'Keyword Alphabetical Index'.

Nice little trick I didn't know about.

Regards,
