Today the Twitter "follow", Facebook "like", and Google "+1" buttons have all been moved to asynchronous loading instead of synchronous. Took me long enough, but finally got it done.

This means that if one of them is slow to load (Twitter slow, Facebook slow, Google slow) then it won't slow down the loading of futures.io (formerly BMT) pages.

Mike

Maybe I'm the only one to notice it, but it's a huge improvement, the pages are much faster to load.

A couple of enhancements to the thread info section at the top of every thread.

1) There is now an easy "Follow Thread" button next to the name of the thread. A lot of people aren't aware it is possible to easily follow new replies (by email) to their favorite threads. This will hopefully draw attention to it.

2) Added a section to list the number of file attachments in the thread. This info was already present to the right of the page navigation section, but apparently a lot of people miss it. This should make it more visible.

The "replies" and "attachment" numbers are links, it means you can click them to bring up more info.

New feature - all the time stamps on the forum are now relative.

Before:

After:

Notice the times changed to relative times from "now".

Please report any problems.

BTW, I've already requested one change with the developer on the relative time mod. When viewing posts in the postbit, I want the precise time listed for anything older than "hours ago" (like it used to be). So relative time will stay for anything newer than "hours ago" and the old fixed time format will return for the rest.

May take a day or so to get this modified.

The effort was worth it, Mike. It has made futures.io (formerly BMT) faster. Keep up the good work.

Related information about how much memory these facebook and google+ buttons consumes -

Wallflower: Un-Socializing Your Web dietrich.blog

I was looking at about:memory and noticed entries for Facebook and Google+ URLs, even though I didn’t have either open. I figured they were probably from the social buttonry that decorates the web these days. No big deal… except they were taking up a bunch of memory! The Facebook button was using over 20mb and the Google+ button was taking over 40mb!

I have never clicked either of these buttons.
So I wrote Wallflower, a simple Firefox add-on (restartless of course) that removes these buttons from any page your browse to, saving your precious memory, CPU and battery life for the content you actually want.

Today added a new 'embed' button when attaching images to posts.

When you click the 'embed' button, it will put the [img]path-to-url[/img] automatically into the post window for you where your mouse cursor is.

If you want to embed multiple images into the post, remember to click your mouse to a new location in the post body window before clicking 'embed' again and again.

I am still working out a couple of bugs, but please go ahead and report problems.

Also yesterday or day before you may have noticed that now when you embed an IMG into the body of a post, it will no longer show the thumbnail below the post (duplicate).

I've also made it so that the ATTACH bbcode keyword functions the same as the IMG bbcode and is no longer a smaller size.

Just noticed this doesn't work in IE9 (last thing I test...). I'll see what can be done. Always something broken when it comes to IE.

is there a way to print an entire thread easily including attachments? I've printed my thread and it was somewhat easy but there were no attachments. Some were screen casts so those are hosted elsewhere I realize and probably not printable.
