Lots of cool setups, kudos to all for sharing

While looking for cable management and concealment ideas, I came across this setup:

Desk with Meters | Matthew Fickett

It doesn't have 32 monitors or anything, and the PC looks pretty pedestrian to some of the available cases out there, there is a very strong geek-chic vibe.

Here's a shot of it during the day, with everything essentially concealed:

Here's pretty much the same shot but with stuff opened up showcasing the uberslcik geekout efforts:

Aw yeah, it's business time now, y'all:

Not gonna lie, I got a little bit of desk envy going on right now

Throughout this thread I have noticed a conspicuous lack of mousepads on many desks. You'll be amazed at the difference a good surface with some fresh teflon mousefeet will do. My personal favourite are the steelseries S&S pads (slightly textured hard plastic), but the QCK (cloth) ones are good too.

Funnily enough - I actually tested out a number of different desk colors before deciding on the final color. Mostly for mouseability...

I never have an issue but I can't use the red-light optical mice, has to be the blue ones. Not sure what the difference is though.

I use this one.

Nice - I gave up on my wireless mouse & keyboards. Lovely bits of kit but ultimately a little glitchy. Not often but often enough to be a pain in the ass.

Both were by Microsoft and I think it was about $200 for the set, so not cheap.

Just that very occasionally, they would not communicate. You'd just move the device a quarter inch & it'd be fine again. The distance to the receiver was way less than 2m and it's not as if my desk is made from lead or anything.

Wired is the way for me. Including teh internet connection.

@DionysusToast

I think I spotted your problem.... (Bold print above) .....

1. I have NEVER had an issue with Logitech.

2. The small receiver works well for laptops and it will control a wireless keyboard and track ball through the same small receiver. When trading , I seldom need a keyboard.

3. You can easily pop the trackball out for cleaning without taking anything apart.

@Big Mike: But don't ask me why the largest book is a reprint of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles "History of Java" from 1817.

Also there are a few bad books that I should have hidden, but I decided not to rearrange any books for the picture.

Your kids told me these are the best books of the collection

Her is my desk. Just two 24"-monitors. Window is to the left. The desk is a DIY job. Couch at the opposing wall.

FWIW:
I agree, hard wired is the only way. Batteries quit at the worst possible time. Be very careful with Logitech upgrades. Monday morning I upgraded my logitech equipment and then started trading. We had news at 10:00 and the market DIPPED, and I hit my first 3 targets, and then CRASH. No BSOD--nothing.... When I did get it up and checked AppCrashView, it showed that Logitech had tried to run another update. Evidently, the first update changed my preferences for updates and tried to do one in the background resulting in the computer shutting down--turning off.

Be careful, just sayin'

The desk looks great (not what my DIY would have looked like). And I dig that stool!

The image quality is not good enough but if you see the desk from nearby you won't fail to notice that it is a DIY job. The stool is called "Swopper".

@RPinSC

What possessed you to update your equipment right before the market opened?

Unless that was a wireless only update .... Wouldn't that have happened anyway?

That's why I do ALL maintenance after the market closes. I have all updates including Windows set to notify me when updates are available. NO automatic downloads on ANYTHING.

I've had this setup for years and have never had a mishap because of the wireless trackball. But then again ... I keep track of how long I've been on the same batteries, have batteries on hand and watch the low battery warning light.

Besides I trade on a laptop ... worst case .... I just use the touch pad.

I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.
