What sort of trading volume is required to get a discount on futures commissions? I have traded 3-10 round trips per day for over a year, but never thought to ask. I pay $3.50 per contract...I know it is high, but like the convenience / familiarity of the platform.

I trade around 10 roundtrips a day 50 a week or so. I asked them to lower it to $4 roundtrip and they did, but this was before TD bought out TOS, I think now you should still be able to get down to $5 RT. Good luck.

FWIW

I am just starting with Futures on TOS and just asked support over chat and they lowered my rate to 2.25.
From reading this thread it seems like it starts out at 3.50 and you can negotiate it.

I genuinely admire anyone who can trade on TOS. There are so many absolutely basic features that are missing. I use it for $TICKQ and $TRINQ only and for that I'm grateful. But I would pull my hair out if I used the platform to trade.

Can you elaborate please?

Missing Basic Features:
--A Bar Counter
--A Tick Counter
--Drawing Tool Fonts (The one size fits all is teeny tiny even after shutting down to exit the platform so you can increase the font -- and then log on again I kid you not.)
--An opportunity to Adjust the Default Fibonacci levels
--A Zillion Redundnat Clicks to Exercise the Most Simple Task such as Erasing a Drawing
--A Way to Save the "Customized" Tick Size even though you use the same ones every session
--Why is all the Space Wasted on the Bar Above the Chart When It Could House a ToolBox?

'nuf said. However, when you're tryin' to get everything to work the way you want it to and you may never do so, ya might stumble on a way to see the internals that ends up being enlightening.

If it weren't for me being lazy and not wanting to learn a new platform and a few custom studies, I would move on.

With that said, I only use TOS for charting and not for actual trading.

One thing that most seem to overlook is data feed - TOS gets their data in blocks so it effectively makes anything other than time charts useless. For me that's ok because I trade one, five and fifteen minute charts.

/6E only

And if none of this or the aforementioned is not enough to convince otherwise - have at it

For five years of hearing f***ed up stories regarding TOS and trading futes

Are stop orders held on one's own computer or at the exchange?

I would contact your broker to be crystal clear. My understanding is that TOS orders are held server-side. Prior to the TD Ameritrade acquisition, TOS was a Chicago-based firm and orders were held on exchange servers. Subsequent to the acquisition, I suspect stop orders are still held server-side but again, I would recommend that you call your broker and confirm. Good luck.
