I think I have fixed it. Instead of reloading the chart, I recalculate the chart. You get a tiny delay whilst the calculation takes place but at least the whole chart does not flash.

Yes that is deliberate. I found that if I did not force the chart to reload, it sometimes did not reflect the changes immediately.
