I left out a crucial step. I was hiding the 'sum charts from list', and then adding a SMA average to panel 1... and I forgot to change the Moving Average scale to...

To add a small bit of clarification - the desired plot is still a single line representing multiple other charts, with an automatic scale (like 'Overlay' does).
