Can a trading account be linked to more than one trading platform?

I would have thought that it can't, my reasoning being, for risk management purposes.

For example, I thought that if your account is close to the level that would grant a margin call and you're flat, you're going to be able to trade only one contract. If you try to trade more your extra orders would get rejected.

But perhaps this would be bypassed by having two platforms on the same account, hence why it shouldn't be possible.

Today I saw someone who appeared to claim they had 2 interfaces on the same account. Is my initial assumption wrong?

This depends purely on the broker and the implementation.

Keep also in mind that you can daisy chain platforms.
I am working on this myself, my NT is linked to my brokerage account.

I can generate and buy/sell discretionary in NinjaTrader
Some other order are generated automatically by a strategy running inside Ninjatrader
While my last category of trades come from a module oustide Ninjatrader that injects order with the ATI interface.

That's what one basically does all the time when e.g. using IB with NT.

Depending on the functions that you use it makes sense e.g. to show news feeds via TWS and use the IB tags to
generate orders for stocks, ETFs etc directly from the news, while trading futures via API and NT.

I am trading an FXCM account with Marketscope and Ninja Trader simultaneously open. When I place orders on one platform, the order immediately appears on the other platform.

@mattz from Optimus Futures maybe able to add to this discussion as I know Matt suggested to me at one time that I might possibly be able to feed TTnet into SierraChart and while at the sametime accessing X-Trader (TT's own s/w) I believe, so that I could see my live account balance (as TTnet does not provide real time account balances). I have also seen suggestions of using CQG feed into say SierraChart (or MultiChart) and then using CQG Mobile for disaster mitigation (eg if your PC crashes mid trade).

Thanks Steve, I believe you and others in the thread have provided good pointers on this.
