Hi, i'm looking to try equities trading with custom automated strategies, and I wonder which brokers I can consider.

I have tried Interactive Brokers demo, have some problem shorting. maybe it's demo. there's also monthly fees to consider.

anyone tried TradeMonster? i know TradeKing and possibly TOS offers API trading. just wanna hear what your thoughts are.

This really depends on how you want to trade. If you are wanting to write your own platform and are a retail trader Interactive Brokers is the best broker that I know of.

That said, if you want to work within the world of the brokers and their platforms (and other platforms like NT or MC) you can do those routes. NT is well regarded here on futures.io (formerly BMT).

If you're referring to the IB quote fees, keep in mind the basic quote fee is waived as long as you generate x number of dollars in commissions per month. The commission figure is pretty small, $30/mo I think.

You might wait to explore TradeMonster after their merger with OptionsHouse is completed. I have accounts with both (plus IB) and it's unclear to date whether the TM or OH platform will be the "survivor" or perhaps some hybrid of the two.

FWIW, for manual options trading, I think TradeMonster is the slowest of three firms mentioned above.

geez, i thought the trademonster merger is completed. their press says still pending regulatory approval

tradier looks great. it has monthly fees too but can be waived. very inclined to go with them.

i recall ib streaming data are snapshots. are all brokers like that? i guess tradier would give almost true streaming ticks?

I've read somewhere that IB data isn't ideal (it is a snapshot, etc). I use IQFeed as my data feed to get around that issue.

Tradier looks interesting. Thanks @Haverchuck for the pointer.
