Back Up Data Feeds

I'm thinking about getting a back up data feed.

What are the current selections? ... must have historical data servers..

I researched this several years ago and am just wondering if there are some new players..

AMP has more options

You are with AMP already.

Give the TT Net feed a try/trial.

I use it with AMP/Sierra combo, but I believe you can use it with NT as well.

I have had this feed since the ZF/Mirus debacle and I can't believe how rock steady it is. While you all have been having CQG/Continuum connection/historical data issues - I have not had one disconnection nor any issues with historical data and I live in New Zealand!

The only thing with TT (and I don't need this accuracy) is TT's classification of a trade taking place at the bid or ask is not reliable - however everything else is ie every tick is reported, volume is accurate, speed is fast (to the naked eye; as good if not better that CQG) and the DOM/depth is accurate.

You have nothing to lose to give it a go given you are with AMP already - and AMP make it easy to setup a sub account as well so you can have both feeds.

Plus - it is cheaper than CQG/Rithmic

I don't know about new players but I have an account with AMP and was concerned about reliability.
This is not just a problem with Amp but with any 'single' trading account.
I also became concerned because AMP seemed to be growing to fast.
(I never know to whom I will be speaking when I call in)

I have not had any serious issues with Amp.
But I think it never hurts to have a backup plan.

I opened a backup account with Optimus Futures @mattz.
I've been impressed with the the personal interest I've received from Optimus.
I'm in the process of creating a 'Friends and Family' block account with Optimus.
They have been very helpful in setting this up.

Good Luck in your search

What is a "'Friends and Family' block account"?

Persistence! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not ... nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not ... Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not ... The world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent!

What is a "'Friends and Family' block account"?

Some brokers call it an 'advisor' account. Interactive Brokers calls it a 'Friends and Family account.

Legally you can trade for up to 15 individuals without being a professional fund manager.
These individuals are your friends and family members.

The one I'm setting up will allow the trading group to trade as one account.
So when I trade the group account each member of the group participates in the profit or the loss resulting from the trading.

Most brokers offer this or if you prefer you can setup a 'group' in Ninjatrader and have a similar result.
However, Ninjatrader has some issues with group exit strategies.

There are several threads on futures.io (formerly BMT) about this type of account.
Here is one: Managing Friends Account

Your selection really depends on the markets you will want to trade and also if you require unfiltered low level data for the analytic you're employing. Consider that and you'll be able to review which is most cost effective.

Regarding redundancy for data to my mind there are many adequate choices: DTN iq feed, CQG, rithmic, etc these are all quality data vendors that a lot of traders are happy with.

The selection of other account types is a bit off topic but if not advise it to begin with as risking the money of friends and family is a dangerous thing to do until you've got some time of consistant success.

Good luck.

This is an awesome discover for me !

I have had some offers from "friends and family" about getting a return on an investment with me
but I had no idea where to start to get the funds "segregated". You say Ninja has some issues with
group exit strategies. What platform is more adept at this function?

I don't mind this off topic concept in this thread, as I was hesitant to start up a duplicate of the one
mentioned by @DavidHP I will read through that thread also.

grazie

Also, I am thinking a whole separate sub account would be a better way to go - addressing the
original question of this thread. I'll just spring for the Ninja Multibroker and set it up.

...I'll just spring for the Ninja Multibroker and set it up.

I've had the NT Multibroker setup for many years.
I only use brokers that can interface with NT since most of my custom charts are programmed in NT.

The 'block' account I'm setting up is with Optimus @mattz.
He is setting this up for me. The only hold up is the 'friends' part.
Some of them are dragging their feet about getting an account setup to join the group.
Once that is done, we should be good to go.

The NT issue with 'group' account is discussed many places on the NT support forum and a few times on futures.io (formerly BMT).
See post #2 on this thread: Trading Multiple accounts with account groups - NinjaTrader Support Forum

NinjaTrader_RJ
NOTE: Subsequent cancellations and or order modifications will NOT be replicated against each order, you must manage each replicated order individually

If NT would address this issue, trading multiple accounts would be a great option directly from the software.
