Let´s talk about technology. They are offering serious data that needs a fine internet connection.
I have hickups sometimes that are in the backbone of my ISP or in my CPU intense indicator research making NT too slow. Would really never change to some snapshot datafeed any more.

From germany 174ms is OK for trading with CME products for me. Can´t move to Chicago the next few years to be myself collocated ..

Actually, I can honestly say, that after one full week I have had zero disconnections during my trading hours on my markets....this is after upgrading to a faster line with a new ISP, removing the router and going direct, and using the Singapore server rather than Chicago.

Very happy at the moment.

Maybe you want to try optimizing your network settings with tools like TCP optimizer from SpeedGuide.net :: Broadband Tweaks, Tools and Info .

In my opinion windows default settings are very conservative to reduce network load, affecting high performance data transfer.

I thought it was just me. I had maybe 3 disconnects a day with cqg/amp. Also I would not get filled at all during fast moving markets. So I made the switch to zen-fire. Costs more but don't have the hassle of waiting up to 3 minutes to reconnect a few times a day.

Did you aready check your computer for malware and other stuff using up bandwith or do you have streaming services running over the same network?

Some of my VPS customers had problems with AMP/CQG. The latency to the market gateway servers we've tested is 5 or 6 routers away, so quite close. But the latency can be above 1ms, then rise up to 7 ms (tested 2 minutes ago), and can accidentally be around 29 ms (2 weeks ago), when the best route to go from Chicago to Chicago was by using a router in Dallas...
So it seems that people with a 1 Gb/s, no malware, and a correctly configured machine can have some problems too.
I didn't heard of any disconnection problems from my customers, but I'm not aware of everything, and I think it might occurs less frequently when you're close to CQG servers than if you have to travel hundreds of miles and a dozen of routers. But these weird latencies are a bit scary...

I have antivirus and no malware and no other connection at the same time... with a real account, 3 min without connections would cost 200 to 500€ ...

It's not your machine. Or your ISP.
