Hi,
I am looking at adding some Forex (and CFD) trading to my trading mix. I do have NT multi-licence, but for the moment my NT is allocated to live trading other brokers. So I am assessing my platform options.
I could get a second NT if I would trade enough Forex volume to warrant that.... or go with MT.
Or alternatively get Sierra for what I am doing now with NT (as I recently got more into market profile stuff I was thinking about changing to a platform with native market profile capabilities) and free-up my existing NT for Forex.

MT appears to be the preferred platform for the Forex devotees, so I want to have a serious look at that. And then compare MT with NT and Sierra.

Anyway:
1. I would like to play around a bit with a Demo account and preferably MT5 to see its capabilities. But I only see the MT4 platform on your site. Does FXCM have MT5 in their offering?
(BTW As I understand it MT4 does not do 8 hour charts... which I need).

2. Then I would at times want to run my NT simultaneously to test this against the MT5 platform.
Can you just connect to the same DEMO or would you need a separate DEMO for this.

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

FXCM offers NinjaTrader, MT4 and Sierra Charts as options. There hasn't been much demand for MT5 thus far, so we currently don't offer it. However, if you want 8-hour charts on MT4, it's possible with the Custom Time Frames indicator which is free to download at FXCMapps.com

You would need a separate demo to test NinjaTrader and MT4.

If you decide you would like to trade a live account with FXCM using NinjaTrader, you may be interested to know that we have a free software license offer that would allow you to add FXCM as your forex broker on this platform.

For Sierra Charts, we also have a special pricing offer, if you use their charts for your FXCM account.

Thanks,
I'll have to test if that 'Custom Time frames' indicator results in the same experience/charts as MT5.

Anyway, an additional specific question about OCO server side:
NT OCO? webinar says 'yes OCO', later somewhere else it is stated a 'no OCO'?
Sierra OCO yes
MT4 OCO ???
Can you please confirm which platform does ....OCO and stops .....on the FXCM server side.
(important for me as internet here is not as stable as I would like).

Hi Peter,

My previous post was deleted. It had links to some free resources you can use to get the OCO functionality you're after. If I try reposting that information, it may get deleted again. Please email me at [email protected] if you would like those details.

Sorry Suhail, but I want to politely decline for two reasons... or even three.

1. I think the futures.io (formerly BMT) site is all about 'paying forward', sharing information publicly and openly with the intention of helping others. With good karma one day you might get something back ......but it 'paying forward' is not about financial return or marketing.
Mailing you directly is something that I regard as undermining the intent of this site.

2. I don't know why BigMike deemed your post as breaching the rules, but I can't imagine the reason was that you straightforwardly answered my questions.
It should not be too hard to formulate answers as simple facts without marketing.

3. I have bad experiences sharing my details with companies.... too often they are used for follow-up marketing.

Anyway, I infer from your answers that OCO is not implemented natively.
But there are add-ons that might unlock such capabilities.

Post was deleted for some promotional language like "free".

I believe FXCM to be the good guys in the world of forex, otherwise they would not be a site sponsor.

I think you may have jumped to wrong conclusion @Peter.

Server-side OCO order functionality comes built into FXCM's Trading Station platform but is not available by default with either NinjaTrader or MT4.

Just a notice for all CFD traders

Daylight Savings Time will end in Europe on Sunday, October 26th. That means the trading hours for CFDs that follow European market times will shift by one hour starting next week. I've highlighted the changes below in yellow.

Note that Daylight Savings Time does not end in the US until Sunday, November 2nd. That means I will post another update next week that will include further changes to the trading hours of CFDs that follow US market times.

Hi Suhail,

I was browsing FXCM website, which is obsolete in some areas especially when it comes to UK spread betting. After 2 independent conversations with your consultants I had 2 different answers about spread betting account and Ninja Trader platform. As I said some information is not updated so on some pages it says it's not available and when one tries to open an account this option is available.

So my question would be is spread betting available on NT7?

An excerpt from the conversation:

Quoting
chris: as far as I know you do not provide spread betting for NT7 platform
chris: NT7 is only available through CFD
chris: is that correct?
FXCM - xxx: I'll check for you. However please note that spread betting and cfd are not mutually exclusive. even spread betting accounts trade non-fx products as CFDs. at FXCM spread-betting simply means tax-free status and does not affect how your trades work
chris: yup that's what I got confused because it does not say in FAQ for spread betting one can use NT7
chris: by the way I do not require NT7 license (got my own)
FXCM - xxx: Okay. I'm double checking with operations, in our notes it says it now works also on spread betting accounts but I will double check
chris: great, please double check and thanks in advance
FXCM - xxx: Thanks Chris! They confirmed that you can indeed have a spread bet account on NinjaTrader

Also pricing mode hasn't changed for SB accounts:

Quoting
FXCM - xxx: spread betting accounts are on the previous pricing structure like all accounts were previously, spread with a markup added. the new structure of low spread plus commission is not available for spread bet accounts

Can you please confirm that is the case and what are current spreads and session times please?

Thank you,
Chris

Hello,

I have the FXCM Historical Data Downloader and have a quick question regarding the UTC offset. If I want to download a year's worth of 1M data in EST format, do I need to split it into three downloads to handle daylight savings time? Or is there an easier approach?

For example, for 2014,
-- Jan 1st through Mar 8th is non-dst and as such would have a utc offset of -5.
-- Mar 9th through Nov 1st is dst and should use an offset of -4, and
-- Nov 2nd through Dec 31 is non-dst so back to utc -5.

Its an important question for me since I generate daily bars using EST 5pm as the boundary.

If you could let me know if the above is the correct approach I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
bp
