Last post... there might be some brokers who will give you free data even without you placing trades, I am not sure of the exact requirements here. You can try contacting a few and see what they say, just tell them you will be on sim for a few months but need live data.

As @Big Mike says IQFeed requires you confirm you have a funded account with a participating broker by allowing them to run an app periodically that chats with the broker client. You don't actually have to trade the account, just connect now and then (once a month).
Edited to add: As a matter of fact, while it doesn't apply to instruments with a centralized exchange (like stocks & futures), you probably don't want to trade spot Forex from a 3rd party feed because of the difference in prices quoted by the broker and the 3rd party feed.

That is true. I have a live account with GlobalFutures.com and I have been using a Ninja demo with free data from CQG and GAIN for several months now. The demo only lasts 20 days so I just keep asking them for a new Ninja licence and for free data. I did not trade on the live futures account for a few months and that was fine.
