Rithmic Live Production Feed - Persistent/Random Disconnect/Freeze Issue
I'm not sure if this is a Sierra Chart, Rithmic feed, or computer issue, or some combination, and who could best help diagnose/resolve it. Evidence from my testing so far points to the computer being the problem, as my secondary computer has yet to disconnect when I've tried it, but I'm not sure what else to check.
Looking to see if anyone else here has experienced something like this, and any advice on things to try. Sometimes the simplest things work, I could not believe I couldn't find anything to fix, but rebooting temporarily fixed the problem.
Experiencing persistent random disconnect/dropped connection/freezing issue with SC using Rithmic Live Prod feed demo from Optimus. Have gathered as much data as possible and attempted to provide it here in a concise/structured format.
Once issue occurs, following is the result:
Charts in SC freeze
No response to refresh charts command or Toolbar buttons
Drawing tools frozen, Tools menu grayed out/disabled
Platform connection status bar unchanged (green) DOM continues to update for some time
File menu does respond
Upon attempting disconnect from feed, message log shows disconnected, but no errors
Platform status remains unchanged (green)
Tools menu no longer grayed out, but still cannot draw on chart, no change to prices on chart, still frozen
Upon restarting SC, can not reconnect to Rithmic in SC, or connect through any other platform (ie R Trader, Multicharts, Ninjatrader) until computer is rebooted.
Rithmic Paper Trading feed login is unaffected, and continues to function in secondary instance of SC. Issue is local to computer the disconnect occurs on, as secondary computer can still connect using Rithmic Prod login while primary computer cannot
Verified/tested the issue is not due to:
Chart fill space
Updating historical charts in real-time
Firewall (no blocked requests)
Network connections manager (removed 3rd party, using windows native)
Difficult to pinpoint cause of issue, at times occurs upon awakening from computer sleep, at times randomly midday while computer is continuously running the feed for hours.
Total CPU usage is under 20% and 3-4GB of free RAM is available, SC continues to appear as a running application using 1-3% CPU and 100MB RAM and fluctuating
Cablevision 15mb/2mb business cable internet, backup battery powered modem
D-link DIR-655 router
Laptop wired in through 1Gb Ethernet LAN connection
Running Symantec Endpoint Protection for
Anti Virus/Spyware
Proactive Threat Protection
Network Threat Protection
(Logs do not indicate any Sierra/Rithmic connections being blocked)
All other internet connections work and continue working fine except Rithmic live feed

I have tried re-installing SC multiple times, and updating versions, etc, this has not helped.
I have tried updating my wireless/network card drivers, now doing all Windows updates/drivers.
I have not experienced this issue on my secondary machine using SC.
Today after leaving the system running overnight, I found that:
1. The issue occured in SC even on the Rithmic Paper Trading login, however I was able to restart SC and reconnect without rebooting.
2. I left R Trader running with the Rithmic Production login, and got a new bit of info, I was disconneced with the message: "You have been logged out due to logging in at another location." I am not able to reconnect to the Production login on this machine until a reboot.
I will test again after a reboot, using only one feed/platform running, something other than SC.
Updated all drivers, deleted unnecessary programs/files/cleanup, removed junk from bootup, completed all windows updates, updated bios, updated symanetic endpoint protection suite, reset blocked applications, and after first reboot, tried to connect on primary while second computer was already logged in to prod feed (and ran fine all day without disconnect on second computer), login error. After disconnecting second computer, still could not login, but second computer could login fine.
Rebooted for the second time, and disabled firewall as well, and tried again on primary computer, still could not login, even after rebooting. Even paper trading system would not login, so neither feed, prod or paper, across multiple platforms, SC, NT, R trader, none worked.
Rebooted for the third time, and finally connected to prod feed on primary computer.
It also seems it does not occur in all the other platforms, when testing them individually. On Thursday evening I ran Multicharts alone on the same Rithmic Prod login for 24 hours straight without a single disconnect. SC, even running by itself, normally experiences this disconnect within a few hours, or a few times in one day. Then, after the close Friday I disconnected from Multicharts, attempted to connect from SC, and received the error message, on both feeds/platforms. After a restart, I was again able to connect.
This is quite frustrating, wasting a lot of time diagnosing this. Working with SC, Rithmic, and Vision support as well.
I think the issue is related to Rithmic, and that the API thinks I am logging in from two places simulaneously and then locally disables the login, but Sierra Chart is also related in causing it somehow and behaves strangely when it happens, and something on my primary trading computer is also part of the cause, as this does not occur on a secondary computer.
Maybe this thead should be moved to tech support? Has anyone else encounted anything like this?
That disconnection is in the weekend and ZF/Rithmic often do maintenance in the weekend ie almost every weekend the system will be shut down at some point for an unknown period of time.
If you get this issue occurring when the markets are open, then and only then is it worthwhile investigating.
The following 2 users say Thank You to steve2222 for this post:
You can always reconnect right away manually... usually I am too busy trading. I will try to get a log this Tuesday (not going to trade tomorrow). It happens all the time.
When you say looking into this, do you work for Zenfire? Thanks.
oh ok... just tried it again... rithmic just disconnects after 23 min or so.... maybe sierra need to send a heartbeat to rithmic or something.
Again I manually reconnect and the second time it got disconnected in 10 min. funny stuff.
