Other than the TWS version/upgrade headaches that I see posted on the forum every now and then, I've heard it is pretty stable. I haven't personally used the combo in years, but a lot of people do.

Just keep in mind, if you are a day trader that uses tick level charts (Volume, Tick, Renko, Range, etc) then IB has terrible historical data backfill, so you'll want a good data provider if anything other than minute or daily bars are important to you.

IB is a good brokerage for a lot of people, especially if you trade equities or more foreign exchanges (non-US). So if you want to use IB for their strengths, you need to also use a third party data provider like IQFeed for your data.

Some people don't want to pay for data. If you don't want to pay for data, then you would be better off going with a brokerage who uses Rithmic, Zen Fire, TradingTechnologies or CQG for data, as it will be free to you through the brokerage. Just keep in mind that these guys don't provide historical data (except CQG I think).

Now, some charting platforms take it upon themselves to provide historical data under certain instances. For example, NinjaTrader provides historical data for Zen Fire users, but not TT users. Sierra Chart provides historical data for everyone. Investor/RT, MarketDelta and MultiCharts do not provide historical data at all.

I would recommend you find the best brokerage, and then the best data, and then the best platform, and combine them all based on your needs. Most of the platforms support the major data feeds and brokerages.

I trade with Ninja & IB daily. It's fine for me.

I don't have much to add to that to be honest.

IB filters ticks on futures market. Does not affect some styles of trading. But make sure you don't mind your ticks being filtered.

"The day I became a winning trader was the day it became boring. Daily losses no longer bother me and daily wins no longer excited me. Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."

Just wanted to confirm that the CQG datafeed that's provided with Amp Futures accounts does indeed have full historical data available and provided, on demand. I honestly can't imagine it any other way (ie., how others could only give no/some/limited historical data?) And, I have read multiple times that the CQG datafeed is the full and real datafeed that one can also separately subscribe to on a monthly basis. I too use ticks, and literally have next to no complaints about the datafeed.
