So what's the problem, why are brokers giving Canadians such a hard time?

Thanks for the PM with the contact info for your rep mysthars. Unfortunately she confirmed that Velocity is no longer accepting new Canadian accounts.

Will check out Mirus as well - thanks kronie.

Dusty, I'm in Canada as well... had an account with Velocity in the past, no problems but I know they no longer accept Canadians....

I'm now with IB and it works fine with both NT and eSignal. I personally recommend them, you can trade Futures, US Stocks, TSX Stocks, Forex all from the same account and can hold your balance in Canadian dollars. Hope this helps.

Cheers.

I think it has something to do with differences in the trading regulations between here and the US - not 100% sure on the specifics though.

Thanks sharp2be - most of the bad reviews I have heard with respect to IB were about their customer service. However if the platform itself is fine I may be able to deal with it.

I'm with IB and AMP (Doman/Zenfire)

The Zenfire is spot on with speed.
IB's data sux but I still like them.

I've not had any issues with either broker.
But I don't ask much. Just like my platform like my women.
Hot - Fast - Cheap...

They both fit that requirement.

Hi David,

When you say IB's data sucks, what are you referring to exactly? Is it blatantly innaccurate? Missing ticks? Lagged? Or is it just missing some features that other data providers have?

Thanks,
Dustin

IB filters tick data. Some don't care, but I do...

what Mike said

I am a bit confused about tick data vendors. It seems that there are only three questions:

1. Is the data filtered (summarized) or not?
2. Latency
3. Reliability

What other questions are relevant between comparing vendors? For example, what's the difference between IQFeed, CQG, eSignal, and Zenfire? All claim to offer pure unfiltered ticks. Both claim to be real-time. What's different?

Not sure about AMP, but I'm happy with Velocity.

There X-trader platform is good, and they also use Ninja. If your going to use Ninja in sim mode for awhile, be sure and ask AMP if they "unlock" all the features in sim mode. Some brokers lock some features in sim mode. Velocity unlocks everything. Also, Velocity doesn't charge extra to use the "static dome". (some brokers do)

Does velocity have PatSystems for its Ninja feed?, or do they also have Zenfire or a knockoff of Zen?

Not sure whether Pat is in conflict with a feature that auto traders use, but I heard something along those lines, something regarding StopLimit orders not allowed, or StopMarket orders were the default. Can anyone clarify?
