@vvhg fyi, FT_71's video on his site has some very good, imho, statistic keeping . . . I'm not up to date with your current version . . . but think this may have some measurements you might want to include (if not already included) . . .

it starts at about 25:50 . . . http://futurestrader71.com/?p=1096

Thanks for all of your effort on this project . . .

Rick

played around with the journal a bunch and left it open for many hours and its holding strong with no errors popping up.. couple questions:

-i read and reread your description of the 'Exit Strategy' feature and i still dont understand what i should be setting it to.

-also, say im updating my last stable build, main journal that i keep, can i just keep importing it over a beta journal for an unlimited amount of times? or can you only import the initial time?

and here is a feature request/clarification of something:

-do we need actual totals of the journal for the yearly table and weekly matrix so we know where the account actually sits and the end of that week, and then at the end of that year? and the question is where does the next year start? does it start all from the initial balance or does it take the ammount in the account from the last year and start from there? so like 2012 would be starting with whatever balance is left over from 2011?

as i was typing that last little bit this came to mind.. what if commissions changed on us or we have to add/takeout money from our accounts? im not sure yet, but adding money isnt really an issue as you can just increase the initial balance, this might cause issues for say taxes if you increased in a diff year? and if we regularly take money out of our account that changes things too..

if we have a commission change that messes up basically everything.. maybe we could have an option to put a 'hold' on data from a certain point in the journal and everything created after would accept the new values?

this also brings up things like now random charges brokers are starting to charge for people to have an account that dont trade that often.. im with cgq and this hasnt happened yet but i think its going to happen to zenfire.. this is just an example of something we might need to add as a reoccurring charge or an every now and then charge depending on how much we have traded that month..

just some things i was thinking about since im not out drinking...

dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exit strategy guide:

If you are always all in all out, 'always one target' is your setting

If you use up to two targets/exits you want to select 'up to two exits' In this case if you only enter one exit it will be calculated as an all in all out trade, if you enter two exits the trade will be calculated as a two exits trade.

Up to three targets works as above, calculated as entered.

Now the 'always two/three targets' options are calculated a bit differently. If you only enter one exit it will split that exit in two/three behind the scenes and allocate it to the different exits. This is done for the sole purpose of entering trades quicker, as all three stopped out at the same price only have to be entered once as opposed to thrice.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer, if not, just shout.

Provided you import always the same number of trades (rows on journal tab) OR more, but NEVER less than the last time, you can import again and again over the records already in there....

Good question, you tell me.

It is continuous.

Very good point! I have got a very rough idea how we could solve that (no promises made):
We could have a transactions tab, where you enter transactions with date, sum (positive or negative) and a comment field. from there it gets incorporated into the account balance array. (when the date in journal matches the transaction date the first time, it is added to the account. this has to be a new column as the accbal column as it is now will be still used for drawdown calculation, otherwise every time you transfer money from your account that would appear as drawdown).

Quoting
if we have a commission change that messes up basically everything.. maybe we could have an option to put a 'hold' on data from a certain point in the journal and everything created after would accept the new values?

Similar to the above, add from/to valid dates on commission tab and match that to the trades records.

we could incorporate that into the transactions tab, perhaps I could come up with recurring transactions...

Next time go out and drink as much as you want, it's much less work for me

Big changes!

Added a transactions tab.
Sorry no recurring transactions, as that proved to be incredibly complicated....so you have to manually do that (You can "schedule" transactions and then they show once you have reached that date. So it would be easy to put in all your recurring transactions at once, regardless whether they are in the past, present or future...)
Oh, yes, and adding rows works like on the journal tab.

Added valid from/to fields for commissions, so that changes in commissions can be incorporated (you could probably also use that for commission levels....as long as the changes are not mid day...)

I'm planning to add a few balance fields on the time stats tab soon, but I thought I rather get the big changes out first for you to try....

Minor change:
Fixed Daily graph on overview. Now omits no trade days and shows correct balance including transactions.

Looks really great. Haven't had enough time recently... I am finally downloading this version! Let's see how the import works.

Thanks.
About importing there might be one thing complicating it a bit: the data is now in a table, which means that the table would have to be resized to the size of the data you import....have a look at the vb code how I have solved it for migration. I am not entirely sure if you first have to resize or if you can do that later....if you can do it later it might be easier to do the resizing from my side, wouldn't be complicated...
