is there anyway to have only one year show initially(on a fresh journal), then have it build years as you add to your journal? that way there wont have to be a limit to the years, it will just keep adding them as you go along..

ok i know ive harped on this before but i really think we should put in 2 decimal places where prices are. this wasnt really an issue before since i could just change the few necessary spots and be done but now there are allot of place where you would need to know exact numbers. im sure there are many reasons to use the journal and i would say its 50/50. 50% personal stats, analyzing, refining and 50% taxes. this is going to be needed especially for the latter part of that 50%..
lmk your thoughts.

Yes and no. Yes, initially only one year shows, and as more years are entered more years (up to 5) will show. But no, I cannot enter more years programmatically as that would not be overly complicated but very tedious,the code for adding one year would easily be in excess of half a dozen pages and perhaps much more....
But I can easily add years the conventional way when needed( so maybe in a few years ), I thought 5 years were plenty.....
The other thing is that although there is virtually no limit on the number of thrades anymore, at some point it will slow down excel....so maybe it might be a good idea to start a fresh journal every few years (depending on the # of trades entered of course).
I see your point. Perhaps I could come up with a solution where the user could toggle decimal places....could you make a rough (no exact cell refs needed!) list of the areas this would apply to?
But keep in mind that there might be bugs in the journal giving wrong numbers....I just recently found one in the commissions on overview tab....I don't want to be the one taking the blame if anyone is charged with tax fraught because of calculation errors
ok your really gunna hate me on this im sure.. i realized that i didnt need to take screenies of these and mark it up, but since i have already done it i will post anyways.. basically everything on the overview, journal, and time period stats pages that are not trade numbers.. so anywhere price is or % is should have decimals i think..
just these spots on the journal tab would be ok:

and i wont post the overview tab since i dont use a bunch of the features there(vwap, mae, etc), but basically everywhere there as well..
i know this, and i always compare totals to my brokers documents.. a way to keep them honest and the journal honest.
here is where you might get mad, can we change the layout a tad? i think we need to move the dailies down and the weeklies up above it and push the quarterlies down into that notch that is created..
also, all of the same stats with the yearly and daily should be applied to the weeklies as well.. it will make the matrix a bit larger but there should be consistency..
and the last thing, the order of the stats should be changed a bit if possible so that it makes sense.. i feel like the order should go like this:

those changes are mostly for flow. the stats stacked that way seem to flow much better than them just kinda in some random order. and the moving the daily section down and the weeklies up it makes the flow from:

to

-daily
would be like counting:

-1
