Hello. I am a short-term crude oil trader. I work from my home office in my basement. My wife also works from home and on the weekend my basement is overrun with my son and his teenage friends. I’ve been trading very well with the exception of 1) when my sons friends have been vaping in the basement - the smell kills me as I quit cigarettes and chew 8 years ago. 2) The rare occasion where my wife interrupts me in the morning. In general, my routine is very strong and I’ll put on noise-canceling headphones to drown out people from the upstairs. We have hardwood floors on the main level and drowning out the noise completely is difficult. With that said, it’s really the most egregious interruptions that throw off my trading. As a short-term oil trader, any distraction really throws me off. What really angers me is they seem to feel that I’m the person in the wrong for trying to have some rules and some boundaries. This is costing me a significant amount of money. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments that can help my psychology?

I know where I'm going and I know the truth, and I don't have to be what you want me to be. I'm free to be what I want.

An alternative is to rent a small office space and split home and work...

yeah I know what u go through. wives totally blame you if you don't listen to them. there's not really a solution other than not trading when she or the kids are around. if you trade and lose you will be sad because you lose money and you will have an angry wife or you will get angry at your kids. if you win, you think you can do it again, but next time you lose, leading to the same shit . wives and kids are never good for trading imo

It's simple. You need to accept what you can and cant change.

Consider: https://www.wework.com/l/chicago--IL

I have been to their offices worldwide, and it's just phenomenal.
You will find the solitude that you need and yet be surrounded by interesting people.

You are distracted, and anger is never a good attribute when you trade.

I hope this helps.

Not a good idea. It's WIFI, public and shared with students.
He needs to hardwire to avoid latency, not to mention security.

Another way is purposeful desensitization, e.g. by adding TV, radio, office sounds, or (as some traders do)
sounds of the former pits to your existing noise level.

Over time esp men can acquire astonishing capacities to filter out strident female voices, yelling kids, etc.
