Thanks @jcrecruit it sounds like you have been and are still going through it. Anything that has an unusual anti-inflammatory action is interesting so I shall PM.

I have to "give up the gun" quite literally this week sir to inflammation. I happen to be a good shot (I'm not a gun nut) and was enjoying going to a nearby range that some military friends here invited me to. The shock is causing increasing joint issues even in my shoulder and I can't tolerate NSAIDs much anymore. I am just far more sensitive to inflammation now. Just one or two tablets a fortnight maybe but any more now and I get muscle tenderness and spasms from the meds. It is weird when even face muscles sting when touched.

I will say that the narrow range in temperature here in Medellin is amazing for melting away the aches and pains. I was in a colder region recently for a week and reminded of stiffness I've not felt since I left living in the UK. Moving to South America may be a good change (if the climate is right)!

It may interest some, I have started doing flotation therapy (not full sensory deprivation) and it is really helping with my back pain.

Lately a continuous pain signal has returned, maybe 3/10 level and it gets wearing. As the guy says in the clip below, the effect lasts a couple of days.

I'm going to build one at home.

My back was severely damaged in the L1, L2, mid and lower vertebrae on a speedboat hitting waves in the north of Colombia Feb 2014. I've never had a problem before but shit happened and I live with a lot of severely degraded discs in my spine.

On some levels trading saved my sanity as when its hurting (you can't just keep taking meds or the liver/kidneys will suffer) I can immerse myself in the charts and it helps me ignore the pain when its bad sometimes. I am hoping to get disc replacements rather than spinal fusion so I must weather the storm until the technology improves.

I don't know if there is much discussion to be had here but as there are several injured/older traders if anyone has ideas

Tip 1: Shoes for back pain.

I'm just posting as I was discussing this with a friend who's wife has lower back disc damage and I thought to mention something that changed my life for the better. I'm in my 40s but I've always been active, triathlons, hiking, the occasional mountain climb and Asics were my shoe of choice for 20 years.

I would every few days on average get a sudden and painful shock as I stepped off too high a curb or something when walking. This would hurt for at least an hour sometimes days.

I switched from good Asics gel shoes to Mizuno Prophecy which are 100% mechanical soles and its been a game changer. (11 months ago now)

The shoes have a lot more suspension travel or cushion to larger shocks relative to the otherwise excellent "gel" or foam Asics (I'm sure others would be similar) which were bottoming out more that I realised.

I'm not saying it has to be Mizuno, they are pricey and likely many brands or types even if its just support for the heel may be better.

The 5 is out now of course. I will say, they (the 4s) were a little slippery on some wet surfaces until they wore in a bit but otherwise no complaints. Oh and you can't really use them on the beach as they squeak with the sand getting into the plastics but ordinary dirt is no problem. I'm looking at maybe Asics DynaFlytes (new model) as an alternative light but allegedly great shock absorption..

You don't need to tell me about backs. I had surgery on my back in 2004 at the age of 35. I had the bottom disc removed, it was the only option. Surgeon did it on a Sunday said it needed to be done NOW or I prolly wouldn't walk by morning. I'd been going through major pains for a few yrs from a lifting injury at work. He told me I would eventually need another surgery on the L2 an possibly the L3. I do have some atrophy an numbness in my left leg but can still walk fine, with a little gimp. Cannot run though. That hit me at first, as at the age of 18 I was nearing the world record in the 100 an 200 meters.
I agree with you on good footwear. Myself like a boot with about a 2" heel.
As a funny note I also rode bulls for 15 yrs. Most of them with a bad back. No I didn't quit after surgery either. Told surgeon my back feels so much better after a ride or 2. His reply was "That don't surprise me, that bull will do in 8 seconds what it takes a chiropractor 3 months to do. However it doesn't mean it's doing you any good. You just feel better doesn't mean you are better."
