Mike thank you for your patience with me. I know I've been posting a lot lately but I don't know if I'm really one to ever make market wizard status due to my inexperience with coding/trading that pales in comparison to those that have been professionally trading for years. However, I'm interested for the sake of potential market wizards if it's of any consequence to thank other posts in excess. Does your calculation give any consequence to an imbalance of extraordinarily high thanking one gives in comparison to thanking one has received even if the threshold for thanks received to posts made has been met? ( For instance, lets say someone makes 1000 posts, receives 5000 thanks, but then gives 10,000 thanks to other posts. Would this type of behavior have any negative impact on achieving market wizard status?)

Your current reputation level is 48 according to your profile, so you are right on the cusp of being a "wizard".

The formula does not take into account Thanks Given. I personally take into account this metric before I spend time to help someone on occasion, but it has nothing to do with any "wizard" level on the forum.

As for number of posts or "posts in excess", there is a balancing act between posts and quality posts. The number of thanks you receive on your posts is a way for the system to determine their "worth" to users of the community.

I would say it is important to write quality posts. But mostly, to answer other peoples questions. Basically it comes down to earning a "thanks", the more thanks you earn, the higher your reputation will be on the forum -- if that is important to you.

Mike

I will also mention, although we are really getting off-topic, that the system rewards trading journals. Not because it knows its a journal (it doesn't) but because of the nature of journals. Journals contain attachments (images) that people view, and the system takes this into account (how popular are your attachments).

Just FYI...

I believe users with good journals should be encouraged, which is why this is there.

But the same can be said for users who help program for others. When they attach indicators (files) that are downloaded, it helps their score.

I do often wonder why some posts get a lot of thanks. Some posts that are copy-pasted from another website can receive a lot of thanks ("thanks for copyright infringement"?) while other posts in which energy is put and references are added do not receive (much) thanks.

I read a lot of books on Kindle, and I often wonder why some passages in a given book get so many shared underlines, from like 49 underlines. Is this group behavior, one person following another following a "maven?"

if i agree with comment or statement being made, then I give thanks. As you can tell from my avatar stats I ve Agreed with more than a few traders views I think i dont answer alot of questions or go out of my way with threads that could cause controversy, this being said I have little thx being given. I have futures.io (formerly BMT) friends so thats all that matters to me Im not trying to be a social butterfly

Honestly Im glad to see this thread bc i dont know how others see giving thx.

Since there is only one button I use it for posts that are one of:
insightful
thoughtful contribution to the discussion
positive addition to the discussion
show a lot of work and effort

I don't give thanks for posts which are:
combatively argumentative
off topic
closed minded
meant to derail and disintegrate the thread

Some people post just to try to show the other fellow wrong - not add something just to be...

..........
peace, love and joy to you

Apparently it weighs journal's heavily. The day I closed my journal my wizard status disappeared even though all the other criteria seem to be met. I don't really care one way or the other but I mention this as a point of interest.
