The last FT71 webinar here had some discussion and images of a good hard copy journal approach. Maybe the template blank is available somewhere?

FT71 Holy Grail Webinar

There is also a thread here somewhere with an Excel journal that is useful. Search for 'Master Trading Journal'.

Hope that helps.

I am new to the trading too. I just started reading about it after attending a "Online Training Academy" seminar on last Saturday. I have found this forum helpful and am keeping MS word document to record all my entries and links to whatever I am reading that interest to me.

It would be great to find out from pros if there are better resources available to make entires.

For journaling notes and my thoughts, I like to use Evernote. I like it because you can easily take and paste screenshots along with the notes and assign tags to the notes. Also it's online so you can access from any computer/device. I read somewhere in SMB Capital Trading Blog that that's what they use for their trade journals.

For trading data/matrics I just use Excel.

There are several components to my journaling:
  1. futures.io (formerly BMT) Journal - I have a public journal here on Big Mikes which I post my trades daily along with general thoughts/learning etc
  2. Excel - All trades are logged and analysed using excel
  3. Evernote - This is similar to my futures.io (formerly BMT) journal but is more personal. I use evernote to post more detailed thoughts, development, psychology etc that I dont want in my public journal

At a minimum I think you need one journal that tracks your stats, and one that tracks the psychology side (reasons for entry and exit, did you follow your plan, emotions affecting your trading etc)

I would suggest a good place to start would be to simply start a journal here on futures.io (formerly BMT). Go to the journal section to get an idea of the other journals that are already here.

I use tradervue for my journaling and online threads as well.

I also oft overlooked and extremely underrated Microsoft OneNote to organize my beliefs/notes about the market as well. It allows me to create a structure about the market I can refer to at all times.

If you look at the screenshot below, the top of the page shows the different folders... kinda like dividers in a binder. On the right hand side shows the topics and subtopics I have written info about. It is fully compatible w/ Windows, so I can paste a hyperlink, a link to a folder, a video stored internally/externally, etc directly into the page.

If you have Microsoft Office, you have OneNote at your disposal. Personally, my Microsoft Office package was a 1 year trial that expired, but I loved OneNote so much, I bought it by itself, and use OpenOffice for everything else.

Do you know if OneNote is able to monitor folders on your PC and automatically import content when anything is added to those folders?

I currently use Evernote which I really like but there are a few minor disadvantages. Im considering giving OneNote a try but only if it is able to monitor folders (which is something Evernote does do). I tried googling it but couldn't find anything on this question.

thanks.

Edit: ok nevermind, it appears OneNote can't do this. Thanks. http://ww38.manage-this.com/evernote-vs-onenote/
Ill stick with Evernote for the time being.

Does anybody know anything about Stator for journaling; and how it might compare to Tradervue.

To me Tradervue seems like the superior product is there anything else that is comparable? The one beef I have with Tradervue is that it is subscription based, I would rather just pay to own something.

thanks fellas
