Opportunities are never just handed to you; they must be created. Opportunities abound for every individual in every walk of life. They may not be the opportunities that you prefer, but each opportunity of which you take advantage leads to bigger and better opportunities.

Physical and mental handicaps may mean that you have to explore territories unknown to others, but they also mean you have opportunities those others will never find.

Think of Stephen Hawking’s brilliant research on the nature of the universe despite the fact that a crippling disease makes writing and speaking, as we know it, impossible for him. Those who approach their jobs and careers with enthusiasm always find plenty of opportunities.

When you are determined that you will not allow others to determine your future for you,
when you refuse to allow temporary setbacks to defeat you, you are destined for great success.

The opportunities will always be there for you. If there are adversities that you cannot overcome right now, remember to capitalize upon them at a later date by looking for the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.

Like @aquarian1, I found your post very interesting and I would love to hear more on the subject of buddhism and your thoughts on meditation.

Manifestation through visualization (Nail trimmer reference): I must admit to being sceptical of this sort of thing. Could it simply be coincidence/confirmation bias?

I have had many experiences of this sort of thing. (perhaps not delivered in packaging though!).

For example I wanted a table for my study/office. I wanted a solid wood one - not made of pressboard, a dark wood not painted - one I could polish and see the wood grain.

The next week was a pressboard desk was put out by someone. I decided to pass.

Then two weeks later I walked a different route home.
Someone had put out (for discard) a beautiful wood table, with two matching chairs and all the fixings plus instructions all neatly taped to the underside.

After a few weeks I found that the chair was not so comfortable for long periods of sitting, so I put in my mind that I would like a nice solid wood chair well-designed so that it was comfortable to sit in. Then within a week or so I was guided to take a different street on my walk home and there was the chair I wanted.

As to the process, engineering it into a perceptual predisposition does not do justice to the process (to heaven) in my opinion .

And important note for continuing and strengthening the process:
I believe, you must express thanks (for the mana from heaven).

"The Universe loves an attitude of gratitude."

----------------- process ---------
  • See the good you desire
  • Have an attitude of relaxed expectation
  • Be grateful

--------
Give where you can,
how you can,
when you see the need.

peace, love and joy to you

Cool, just found this.

I have read a few book about LOA and experimented with it. I have found it to work and continue to study it. I love Tony Robbins. This is a great launch pad incantation below. I do this daily while focusing on trading.

Also, the late Mark Douglas' wife wrote an trading affirmations book. I wrote my own that I derived while I read Trading in the Zone.

Opportunity often knocks — only to find no one in.

The world is filled with unfortunate souls who didn’t hear opportunity’s knock at the door because they were down at the convenience store buying lottery tickets.
Branch Rickey, general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1942–50, once observed, “Luck is the residue of design.”

You will be surprised how much your luck will improve when you make sure you are prepared to take advantage of opportunities. How many times have you had a great idea that you failed to act upon, only to discover later that someone used the same idea to start a business, get a promotion, or find a better job?

Resolve now to get into action when you have a good idea.

If you are so inclined, you can always find dozens of reasons why something can’t or shouldn’t be done — and precious few why it should or could. It is far easier to rationalize that it’s too difficult, too expensive, or too time-consuming. Instead of making a commitment, we make up an alibi.

If we are willing to work hard enough, smart enough, and long enough we can accomplish anything.

Divisive argumentation is a very negative thing especially for a thread which is centered on positivity.

When you post in response to someone else post be careful what you say and how you say it.

There is no need to reply to everyone.
It is only one's personal ego that requires it.

--------------
I am very busy. I work 24/7.
If I have to spend 20-30 mins (or even 10) writing PMs to patch up damage caused carelessly thought out posts -
it hurts me. I realize most people have more time to waste than I do - but I don't have any time to waste at all.
Wasting my time, is not, for me, acceptable.
--------------------

If your reply is negative, challenging or argumentative just leave if off.

(Time lost for this post another 20 min)

A rule in trading is:
When in doubt get out

similarly for posting a reply to someone in this thread:
When in doubt - leave it out

Hi everyone,

Sorry for late reply. I work 12 hour shifts and have some health issues, so don't always get around to personal stuff on a timely basis.

I also didn't think my post would generate all these responses, that was a wonderful thing.

Has anyone ever considered starting a group meditation on Skype, considering all this interest? The format could be someone different conducting it every week (guiding everyone else with a verbal guided meditation) with whatever meditation they wanted to offer. Just a thought.

Devil Man, I assure you I wasn't smoking anything and it really happened. It was actually the second time that 'it' happened in my life, the first was about 10 years prior to that. Also, through meditation (chanting).

Another instance happened similarly in that I was offered a ride home late at night from work by someone. When she started the car, it kept turning over but it wouldn't start. She had two tired, whining kids in the back car, I was pretty tired too, and also, I found out she knew before she offered the ride that she was having problems with the car. So I was annoyed. But I was stuck because it was in an isolated suburb of NY with everything closed, no cell phones yet, and no telephone booths within walking distance and we couldn't just walk up to a house at that time of night and knock to ask if we could use their cell phone, and also, couldn't get back into my place of business which was locked.

So we just kind of sat there for an hour and every once in a while she started the car, and it would turn over and make horrible noises and not start. Now, you have to know here that this woman had been trying to get me to become a Catholic for a couple of years. I wasn't a Buddhist yet, but I had started chanting (Hindu astrological type chants) every day.

After about an hour or so, she tried the ignition again and I spontaneously, in a half-joking way, I put my hands on the dashboard of the car and intoned, "In the name of Jesus Christ, please start...," and you know what happened. The car kicked in to lie. She turned to me and shook her finger in my face and cried out, "You see! You see!"

I have thought about these incidents many times, the manifestations (although the second one is a little different) and also, the car incident. I think what happened is that: a. I was chanting or meditating a lot and had increased or raised some kind of vibrational energy within myself, combined with b. a kind of 'conceptual mindlessness' each time. When I wished for the nail clipper and when I put my hands on the dashboard it was in a kind of idle non-grasping way, sort of in the place between thought and no thought. Where a particle is so small that sometimes it's a wave. All the great shamanic traditions talk about the amazing things that can happen in that time-non-even/event place in our mind. The one that comes to mind right now is Carlos Castenedas and Don Juan's teachings on the 'holes' in reality.

Buddhism doesn't talk about that so much, or care. That stuff is one of the 'minor' siddhis, or powers, and any low level magician can drum up a few things. Creating compassion is much more important to Tibetan Buddhists, at all times and all places. Aquarian, that is really the most thought I really have about Buddhism. And I'm not a scholar anyway. Buddha had over 84,000 teachings, and to me, the most important is not grasping at self and compassion.

And yes, Aquarian, my drop of goodness is the sea of goodness. Thanks for reminding me of that. But it's important to consciously offer up the merit gained through the meditation (NOT the meditation itself!) to all sentient beings consciously, over and over again, according to the lamas. The human realm is the realm of desire and we are here solely because we grasp. Also, if you don't share the merit, and keep all this merit credit you've created, very often you can be reborn into a life where there is a lot of money and leisure, and you use up all the merit because those kinds of conditions very often create selfish, even horrible people.

And then you go down the wheel again, and up the wheel...Better to offer the merit and get off the wheel to eternal bliss.

But that is really advanced stuff and not sure what you wanted to hear?

About naming amounts and quantities, I just posted it because I was staggered by what the mind can create when cued into a a powerful zone.

And what gets in the way? Well, attachment. As I said, each time something manifested I wasn't particularly attached to the result. Attachment to anything, not just the outcome - attachments that are wired into us, like deep fear, anger, etc. And even when I did have an agenda, years later, the outcomes were more powerful when I became for just a little while completely absorbed in the meditation, and let my personal agenda go for just a little while.

Regarding things that get in the way and healing them, there is a great meditation (I know about a gazillion types of meditation) that was developed by a woman named Tsultrim Allione. It's in a book called 'Feeding Your Demons.' It's based on a very ancient Tibetan ritual called Chod. The book is very repetitive, and most of it is anecdotes, so if anyone is interested I would just go to the library or online (you can get a free trial at Scribd) to read the meat of it, but not buy it unless you're really compelled to.

It's built basically around the idea that these internal or external demons (which are a mirror of our internal demons) are feeding off us all the time. So why not give them what they need or want? I have done the actual Chod practice - it's a little scary - but with the American version developed by Allione there was a kind of relief, a kind of sigh, "Ah...I can stop fighting this, or trying to get rid of this..."

The bottom line is 'reality' is so much more fluid than we think. When I was a kid I could slow down my perception of time and once I woke up in an alternate dimension (I swear this a true story), all kinds of things that I couldn't do as I grew up. But we keep using just a small slice of what is available to us to you know, get a bigger house or a Merceded Benz. Not that that is a bad thing, but I have a feeling that is like getting a piece of candy when there is a whole continent available.

I'm being a bit of a hypocrite right now, because I'm in a poor and struggling phase and right now a bit of manifested 'candy' such as not working so hard for so little money sounds divine to me.

Anyways, I hope I made up for my lack of a response, Aquarian. I tried to pm you about the (long term karmic lesson) health issues but the site said I couldn't pm you because I only had one post.

So, this makes 2!

Best regards to everyone.

~D

Edit: the lamas also say the most powerful way to get abundance for yourself is to wish it for someone else in your meditations.

I've just started reading this and so far it is excellent! The first chapter alone has already made me laugh out a few times. Thanks for the recommendation.

Last night before retiring I read a little in
Norman V Peale' "Power of the Plus Factor"

As I tend to do, I open books at a random place trusting the Universe to bring me a message I need at that moment.
It was chapter 11 the Plus Factor and the Thirteenth Stone. The chapter is on caring and compassion.

..."people who care about other people, and show caring in loving. unselfish ways, almost invariably have a strong, deep current of the Plus Factor operating within themselves.: p101

Peale uses stories to illustrate the various ways unselfish caring about and for others can be expressed.
