The man who doesn’t reach decisions promptly when he has all necessary facts in hand cannot be depended on to carry out decisions after he makes them.

There is no one right answer — but an endless number of right answers — to most of life’s problems. Usually, your options are many and varied; the difficulty lies in choosing the best alternative from among many, all in a reasonable time frame. If you devote yourself to making small decisions promptly, you will find it much easier to be decisive when the stakes are much bigger. Most important, you’ll find making decisions and acting on them far easier if you act promptly.

"Usually, your options are many and varied; the difficulty lies in choosing the best alternative from among many, all in a reasonable time frame."

Is this not true for trading? We have endless information/data/indicators/patterns and we need to seize the correct moment, in face of conflicting indications. We need to make a decision and act at the right time, where both hesitation and jumping the gun can be costly.

There is an optimum moment for the trade with our risk higher both before and after that moment.

Each trade decision is important eroding or enhancing our equity. There are no little decisions in trading.

We all have within us the potential for greatness or for failure. Both possibilities are an innate part of our character. Whether we reach for the stars or plunge to the depths of despair depends in large measure on how we manage our positive and negative potential. It is doubtful that, if left unchecked, your virtues will rage out of control. Unfortunately, the reverse is not true about your faults. Left unattended, faults have a way of multiplying until they eventually choke out your good qualities. The surest way to control your faults is to attack them the moment they appear

Earl Nightingale "The strangest Secret"

"The human mind can do any job we assign to it, but generally we assign it little jobs instead of big important ones. Plant your goal in your mind. Care for, work steadily towards towards your goal and it will become a reality, it cannot not become a reality."

Courage is knowing what you have to do, and doing it despite the fear confronting you.
Courage is not lack of fear, it is doing the thing you fear the most that gives you courage.

No I haven't - but I'll check it out! Thanks Grant!

In passing,
As a Man Thinketh - James Allen
is an excellent book on spirituality - I found it the sort of book that you read a paragraph set it down and think about it. Very profound writer.

Wow thanks for sharing this. I downloaded the book and doing what you suggest, read a bit and think about it, it is very powerful. I am going to take my time and savour the book slowly

Here is a part I read yesterday which directly relates to trading psychology and reminds me of my favourite perseverance image:

Quoting
"He that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened;" for only by patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity can a man enter the Door of the Temple of Knowledge.

Here is the picture we have all seen before. Dont be the dude on the bottom:

Here is an idea to try

Get a notebook and when you come to a passage that resonates:
Stop - copy it by hand into your notebook - preferable one with good size pages eg. 8" x 11'
Close "as a man thinketh"
Go to your notebook and write the thoughts that flow from the passage you copied.

Sometimes I would write an entire page.

(Note you have to hand write in a notebook. Do not do this on the computer. The computer and screen use a different part of the brain/mind. You handwrite so as to let yourself access your intuitive side.

James Allen wrote about 110 years ago in (my imagination follows) a little cottage in England, after a lifetime of study. I can imagine him looking out across a quiet country scene, wild flowers, bees humming on a soft warm summer day, a cup of tea at his side - tranquil and serene tapping into the great universal mind for inspiration.

I will try that. The only diary that I keep on my computer is numbers in an excel spreadsheet of trades. The rest of my stuff is all handwritten and I prefer it that way because when it is on paper theres no going back and editing to make something sound smarter, your thoughts are now in ink. When I first started keeping a diary, I would sit and think what I wanted to say and then write it down. Nowdays I dont think about it I just start writing and it is actually quite surprising how much stuff flows out onto paper.

Principle 1 - Desire
  • You would not have the desire if you were not capable of its achievement. 6:11
  • Each of us has a built-in governor and our desires are modified by our abilities and leanings.
  • "Whatever you desire with all your heart understand once and for all that it can and should be yours" 6:20
