If you chose an idea and place it in here (the subconscious emotional mind) and get emotionally involved in it, instantly and automatically you move this thing called a body - which is nothing but a mass of energy - into a new vibration. The new vibration causes new actions giving new results.

We want to be aware that when we are not doing the things that give us the results we want we are emotionally involved with a destructive idea. You may have had poor (undesired) results in the past but don't have to pay twice.

Knowledge is an important component of success in any field. To accomplish anything worthwhile often requires years of study. But knowledge alone is not power; it becomes powerful only when it is applied through positive action. Study after study of successful people reveals that they have a bias for action.

This is a question Bob Proctor poses to the audience. He feels we know how to do things better but we don't (sometimes through ingrained beliefs in the subconscious but often because we just don't stop a think, really think).

Sometimes while reading a thread at the forum ideas will come how that trade could be better, or that method improved. Then the next thought is: "If I were to write a book on trading what would I include?"

That usually becomes overwhelming as there is just so much.

We all might like a simple system such as "if the overnight gap is x then x"
and then realize there are a myriad of complexities ""except if... z then q..."

That usually becomes overwhelming as there is just so much.

So perhaps the answer is to be deeply quiet, deeply still once you pose the question and let the Infinite Intelligence supply the answer.

How would I be living right now if massive abundance from trading was inevitable? Then living that way in each moment. Behavioural therapy, aka fake it till you make it.

When we are not feeling good, when we are not getting the results we want,
we are getting emotionally involved with a destructive concept we have put on our subsconcious ourselves.

I was thinking about Bob P's words, "There can be no intelligent action come from a negative vibration".

If we control our vibration by controlling our thoughts, then we need to be continually monitoring our thoughts and catching ourselves when we are thinking negative thoughts.

I have found that little memory clips are triggered (sometimes by outside stimuli and sometimes what we pick up through the ether), and they can set off a chain of linked memories, which for me, usually results in a painful memory.

So there is a concerted effort required to assess our feelings, note when we are in a bad vibration, and instantly stop that thought chain and surplant it to a positive chain.

Hopefully, this requires less effort as we progress and the monitoring becomes habitual and subconscious.

I agree, but it's virtually an impossible task. Significant personal change is an extremely rare thing in life. You just hardly ever see it. Mental inertia is like a 10 tonne weight, whether positive or negative.

There must be a way though.... beliefs are just electricity after all. What is the way (other than spending an entire lifetime employing self-talk for small gains)?

I feel there is a way. (As an aside one needs to be very careful of word selection, that is framing. So framing the challenge as a "virtually an impossible task." , "like a 10 tonne weigh" can lend power to the challenge versus the solution).

So
" I believe there is a way."

That statement, that belief, itself opens the doorway of potential solution. So that is the very first step. Acknowledging it is possible and holding that belief.

The second part of the challenge is two-fold: negative (subconscious) programming and ego.
I have seen many people undone by their own ego. They get a little too prideful and this cuts out areas of thinking and endeavour essential to success. For example, Bob Proctor speaks of watching the same video over and over and over again for 30 days. So I am.

The video is simple and straightforward. So for many their ego says "I don't need to watch it over and over again. I get it, I got it the first time." I have a friend who accomplishing this - a 30 day exercise - is totally preclude by his ego. In his pride he can't see the obvious.

The other part is programming. We get programmed with negative beliefs -some of which are so deep we don't even know they are there. How are these changed? There are several ways and repetition is one. A faster and more effective way is self-hypnosis. This by-passes the doubting Thomas of the conscious mind.

Good point. Take the extreme example of addiction to alchohol.

The rate of people who are able to recover from alcoholism over the long term, for example ten years, is low. I'd bet it's much lower than the 7% recovery rate that is usually claimed by rehab. Because people revert eventually without consistent effort.

So how much effort is required to change a person enough to overcome an addiction within a program such as AA, for example? If you added up the total amount of time and attention, the personal cost is enormous. It requires total focus for a considerable period of time. Years.

There’s an old folk song about a thirsty traveler who comes across a pump in the desert. An attached note explains that there’s a jar of water buried nearby to prime the pump. You’ve got to give before you get, the note says. It is up to the traveler to decide whether to drink the water from the jar or take a chance that the small amount of water invested will result in an unlimited supply of cold, clear water. So it is with going the extra mile. You’ve got to give before you get.

Over the last few months, I have been working with Steve Present on the subconscious mind. It was originally for my day trading issues but it has extended to all areas of my life. The process has taught me how closely linked one's discretionary trading is to their personal matters and issues.

The cost of the sessions has by no means been cheap, but for me, it has been very worthwhile. In the space of an hour each session, Steve does almost all of the work that I don't think any type or level of affirmations could ever produce the same results.

I thought that I would share this in case it is of assistance to anyone. When I read people's trading journals on FIO, and they describe their psychology issues with trading, I recognize I was once in that situation and that it can be resolved.

Yeh most troublesome thoughts aren't volumtary or willed, they are repetitions of previous imprints. They happen on their own, uninvited and without our consent. In a sense they aren't "ours". In a sense, these thoughts happen to us.

Good to accept them, I think. Fighting them only aggravates matters.

Since I've stayed on the goal of re-listening to the video every day, I have been faster at catching the unwelcome thoughts. By checking how I feel, I notice when I'm not feeling positive and look to see what I have been thinking (usually a negative memory). Then I follow that back to a "trigger"

The trigger seems to lead to the negative thought chain.

As soon as I catch it I changed it. Sometimes singing a little tune can move me to neutral. Then from neutral I can stick a positive thought in (read a positive affirmation or visualization).

My goal is to raise my vibration by being in a more positive thought chain more often.

This is the flow:
1. I notice I am feeling depressed
2. I review my recent thoughts
3. I follow them back to a trigger.

Beliefs are usually subconscious.
Conscious thoughts are in the consciousness. (*)

Being aware of our feelings tells us when we are holding negative thoughts.

Thanks for posting. I know the mind is important, but anyone who creates 15 million videos is clearly lost (Proctor). If something works, you can say it briefly. If something doesn't work, you take a scattershot approach and hope like hell something sticks. That's what he's done, and all those LOA people are the same.

Bob speaks of forming one new habit that will improve the quality of our lives or our performance. I was thinking about trading. (mim 28).
"What one thing could you do that would improve the quality of your trading results?"

--ideas -------------------
1. Not taking a trade until all factors scream "big trade" - swinging at the fat pitch only even if it means waiting several days.
2. Not trading a reversal if the approach leg is in-line with the trend of the day.
3. Only trading retracements that hit at ~50% (or a S/R level) and are in line with the trend of the day and where the trend still has 2/3 (?) or 10(?) pts of the estimated range of the day left to run.

(4.) Not trading a retracement if the stops are within 5(?) pts of the retracing direction.
-- not sure how the math works on this in line with #3 --

A negative mind never attracts happiness or material success, but it will attract their opposites.

You may trick yourself into believing that you are only playing devilís advocate or searching for weaknesses in apparently good ideas, but in the end negative thinking always produces negative results.

Just as your mind will work tirelessly to translate your positive thoughts into their physical equivalent, it will work equally hard to create negative results when all of your thoughts are negative.

Because of their lack of knowledge they don't know that they are causing themselves to feel bad.

Let us become aware, when we are not feeling good, or when we are not doing the things that give us the results we want, we are emotionally involved with a destructive concept that we have put in our subconscious ourselves.

Lets' consciously and deliberately build a positive idea,
get emotionally involved with a positive idea,
and simultaneously we move into a positive vibration,
everything changes.

Defeat is never permanent unless you allow it to be so.

There are many things in life that you cannot control, but you can control your attitude toward them.

In trading and in life, we often beat ourselves up over mistakes/bad trades.

This is a normal characteristic of our society perpetually focusing on grading and focused on fault-finding and criticism.

Focusing on the faults only, increases the power of a mistake instead of enhancing the potential positive power of the experience.

Don't beat yourself up - the world will do that for you. Be strong. Find the good and focus on the good and grow that.

As a told a friend once:

"Any lazy fool can look in the gutter and see the dirt.
It is a strong person who lifts their head and looks to the stars."

Thanks for this thread aquarian1.

I think I was in my teens when I found some of my dads old books and I read "think and grow rich". Not to exactly date myself, but that would be over 35 yrs ago :-O

Anyway as my trading coach often says as well as many other successful traders, its 90% head stuff, 5% money management and 5% trading system. Not sure exactly about the numbers but I can say I completely believe that it is a large majority head stuff or Phycology (spelling ?).

Hear are some of my inputs not in any particular order :
- Some habits are extremely important and impact you more rub off more than others. Example eating well or exercising. If you eat well, and exercise, your mind is clear, you feel less stressed, you sleep better, you are more energized and upbeat etc etc.
- Morning or pre trading routine. Just like Robin Sharma or others write and talk about, a morning routing is extremely important to start off you day current. Likewise, a pre trading routing such as positive affirmations, visualization etc is key to get in the right mindset. I have stuff pinned to my monitors, as well as post it notes on my bathroom mirror to remind me of this.
- NLP. I haven't seen much in this thread on this although I may have missed it. NLP has tools such as swish pattern where you can "break" negative habits, in other words you can disconnect negative emotions or actions connected to previous things. With NLP, you can replace the negative emotion with a positive one.
- Goals & visualization. I've always been a big supporter of this. Be careful though. Friends and even family may try to steal your dream. Most people may think this is hockey or hoopla and may discourage you. Like firewalkers in Tony Robbins seminars. Of course a few people may burn their feet a little .. so what ? I personally have a list and I have a presentation made up with all kinds of dream pics. YOU NEED A COMPELLING FUTURE.
- Performance or activity goal. At first it might help to have activity goals (read 15 min a day, daily push-ups, 10 min of meditation, visualization etc.) And performance goals: How many times you follow your rules, ec..

instead of visualizing what you want, try to visualize what life will be like if you don't do the things you need to do( follow plan,make money ect ect) I find this much more powerful
