The Power of Faith and Expectation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwhYSdDmtlg

Expectation
Story Moses and the desert wandering
"where are the ditches?"
The ditches?
"If you believed it would rain you would have dug the ditches."

Until you can see it on the screen of your mind, until you can see yourself in possession of your desire on the screen of your mind you and ACT on it will never experience your desired goal.

How many people EXPECT what they desire?

We should never desire something we don't expect (nor expect something we don't desire).
----------
e.g. expectation
min 13:59

Love The expression of a single idea through two minds [ setting up a resonance of expectation in the two minds of the type of person they would like to meet and then the resonance and the like vibration so that the path of attraction was set up and the circumstances re-arranged so the were drawn to each other and the expression of the single idea actualized.]

I am looking for people to share their visualizations of abundance.

What visualizations to you use when you see yourself being materially abundant?
How do you color these visualizations with emotion?
Do you include a visualizatioin of yourself trading with ease and perfection?

Other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

My theory to creating abundance is a number of people meeting in a same place and time daily if not at least weekly.... it manifests abundance, example some dude has the weed we smoke, the other has the conversation, plenty of energies

More to the words to your question, colour would be green? heart chakra energy? thats what i would use at this moment if i had to

If it isn’t your job to do it, perhaps it is your opportunity.

Someone once observed that the reason we often fail to recognize opportunities is because they come disguised as problems. When a customer, a colleague, or your boss has a problem, it may create a valuable opportunity for you. It isn’t important to the person with the problem how your company is organized or whose responsibility it is to solve the problem; he or she only wants the situation resolved. The next time a customer, a colleague, or your boss asks for your assistance in something that falls outside your area of responsibility, instead of referring them to someone else, offer to help. Look at the situation from the other person’s point of view. How would you like the situation handled if the roles were reversed? Take the initiative to find the answer, solve the problem, or keep the project moving forward.

I tried this on Monday evening and in my visualization I had the price top at 9:03am
The next day, Tuesday it topped at 9:03am!

I did write myself a check with a future date on it and put a picture of my dream beach house under my mattress. That type of thing actually has worked for me in other areas of my life. Thanks for the ideas!!!

Yesterday I was listening to a Bob Proctor youtube, and his business partner was presenting. He tells of a young lad wanting to get better marks and he is told to complete a report card and marks in the marks he wants to have and then places it in his room where he can see it every night before he falls to sleep.

Jack Canfield tells of writing his goal ($100,000) on a piece of paper and taping it to the ceiling.

Both examples place the representation of the target in line of sight.

I think I should try this with my trading.

I will set 50pts/contract per week - so to be attained each Friday.

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.

--------------
You may temporarily achieve success by demanding more than your due from others, but it will not long endure. “Squeaky wheels” may initially receive the most attention, but the wise wagon-master eventually replaces them. It’s easy to create problems and dissension but very difficult to lead others in a spirit of cooperation and harmony.

Bob Proctor - How Your Thought's Become Things - The Process of Creation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j11NXGFl11k

this is one of the best ones -for me
There is a bit at the end where we see ourselves as an instrument through which the spirit creates
that line
and the idea that relaxing, and feeding the mind with the image creates new cells and the new cells create the vibration necessary to attract the resource/events/actions to draw the manifestation into creation

doubt blocks the vibration

each time we hold the image we build that vibration

"Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches. "

Thanks aquarian1, I have had a chance to watch the video. Valuable stuff.

The concepts of the videos for me are similar to those of The Secret.

Sometimes things in our external world tend to knock us off kilter.

The trick is not to let our external world dictate the vibration we generate.

If it does we are stuck in a "Ground hog day scenario" replaying the same loop of negative experience, negative vibration, negative experience.

On days and time when we are feeling on top of things we can write out our feelings and thoughts and read those writings in times of need.

Part of the art of manifestation is getting into a good vibration state,
There are many ways. Here is another.

I have a deck of Louise Hay's "Wisdom Cards"
Each card has a positive supportive message on it.

Here is one a young lady chose today:

"I release other people's fears and limitations. I think my own loving thoughts."

and on the reverse side of the card:

"I deserve only good in my life."

[in] human relationships that it is virtually impossible for one individual to have a lasting positive influence upon members of a group of negative thinkers.

..it [also] works the other way. You cannot maintain a positive, productive attitude if you spend all your time with negative people. Those who have wrecked their own lives (and usually blame their misfortune on others) are not the kind of people who will help you achieve success in your own life.

Choose your friends and associates carefully, and refrain from complaints about your job, your company, or any individual. Spend your time with positive, ambitious people who have a plan for their lives. You will find that their optimism is infectious.

Very well said aquarian - I recall Stephen Covey and his 7 Habits. Habit 1 is "Be proactive", which basically means you know you're in the driving seat in terms of deciding the course of your life.

Negative people for me are those who don't see that. They believe that they are unable to influence their life significantly and so they blame others for their poor results.

In Covey's "Maturity Continuum" they are stuck at the lowest level of maturity, which is Dependence: depending on others to get what they want; it's not the attitude of "me", it's the attitude of "you". You come through for me. Or you don't come through for me. Then I can blame you for the results. It's very "you"-oriented.

Positive thinkers, on the other hands, are those who believe they can influence their life and they focus their effort on that.

Another concept from Covey's book is the Circle of Influence and the Circle of Concern

Proactive/positive people focus on the inside circle, i.e. what they are able to influence. The theory being that the more you influence, the more you can influence, leading to the inner circle getting larger and larger.

Dependent people focus on the outside circle. Things they cannot (or do not want to) influence.

You Covey post is great. A friend of mine had brought forward the area of influence and area of concern concept of Covey''s.

I had not heard of the level of maturity concept - a valuable insight.

Thanks!

Here is a maturity continuum diagram

Covey's theory is that being able to implement the first 3 habits move people from the low-level maturity stage of Dependence to the intermediate level of Independence.

He calls this step "private victory", because being able to achieve these first 3 habits represent a personal achievement. In other words, the first 3 habits are centered around the "self".

Habit 4, 5 and 6 are all about relationships with others, so by implementing those, one achieves the "public victory", and moves to the high-maturity stage of Interdependence.

One cannot be Interdependent with others unless he/she and the others achieve Independence. In other words, it is a sequential and progressive journey.

Habit 7 is, basically speaking, a refresh and revisitation of the prior 6 habits.

Years back I bought a sail boat named "Faith." And old wooden snipe, now white with dark blue trim.

When I was restoring it I thought to myself "What a prosaic name, maybe I should change it."

But I just left it like that.

Years later, thanks to trading, I have rediscovered the meaning and value of faith, and now that boat has a special significance.

Remember that the tone of your voice often conveys more accurately what is in your mind than do your words.

In a moment of conflict, a suggestion or compromise can salvage a threatened working relationship. A discouraged employee can be motivated again through a few carefully chosen words. In situations like these, a good manager is looking beyond an immediate situation and acting to preserve a future benefit. But if your voice betrays your own anger, fear, or despair, that emotion, not the wisdom you offer, will be what others remember. Those who rise to the top in any organization are those who have learned to control their emotions. When you have a leadership position, others will watch you closely for the signals you send. You must learn to manage yourself and all the ways in which you convey messages to others if you want to inspire them and demonstrate that you care about all the members of your team.

Friendly cooperation is never any part of the Devil’s work. He is working on the other side.

The most noble human relationships are those that have been formed in a spirit of cooperation and harmony. Cooperation, in many ways, is the physical manifestation of your care and concern for your fellow man. When you work with others in a spirit of friendly cooperation, you are conducting yourself according to the founding principles of most religions and all successful societies. Everyone occasionally feels pangs of jealousy or envy, usually accompanied by the urge to cause problems or difficulty for those we dislike. Truly successful people have learned to restrain such urges. They know that if they concentrate upon their own objectives and help others along the way, they will eventually reach their goals. It isn’t easy to always be a friendly, cooperative person, but in the end you will find that it is worth the effort.

'Conditions' here means the reality - the unexpected, new, even impossible things that then happen.

Once a course of action has been decided upon Napoleon would follow it to closure regardless of what happens!

Lighter note:

Guy in a bookshop to girl at cash register: "Did you know that Napoleon said that the word impossible was not in his dictionary?"

Blonde at cash register: "Well, he should have checked that before buying. I'm afraid we do not offer refunds."

:-)

the quote is their email.

I understood "conditions" to mean:
regardless of the current conditions e.g. poverty, lack of trading success, and regardless of future obstacles that are placed in your way, once you have made a firm definite decision and hold to it unwaveringly, the Universe will move heaven and earth to arrange things so you will meet with eventual success.

The conditions will nor stop you from reaching your goal

It sounds like in this context conditions=adversities.

Yes - partly.

Note: the the quote and the others I am pasting from the daily emails are not necessarily from the book - but rather the foundations' interpretation of the book.

From "Think and Grow Rich" Napolean Hill sets out 13 steps/condition/"secrets" to riches.

In several places he speaks of the importance of reaching a firm definite decision:

(e.g the little black girl demanding the 50 cents for her mama, Ford demanding that his engineers produce a 8 cylinder engine cast from a single block - though his engineers said it was impossible, the singer who pounded Broadway until the universe had finished testing her resolve, Barnes who burned all bridges and determined he would be in partnership with Edision, etc)

Ford quote "I want it and I WILL HAVE IT. Continue until you succeed." (caps are mine)

Hill speaks of definite of purpose and totally committing to it (burning all bridges) - in I will do this thing - absolute and utter faith regardless of:
1. others opinion of the doablility (or even "impossibility" of the enterprise),
2. what conventional wisdom says,
3. what current circumstance (known engineering methods) indicate etc.
4. others mental mindholds of what "is".
all these might be thought of as = "conditions"

So "conditions" are this outer state current manifest "reality".

The new reality we are creating, that is a manifestation of the vision we hold, is not limited by (past) conditions. Indeed from other authors the current condtions only show what you were visualizing and attracting in the past. Focusing on the current as an indicator of the future is like doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

Bob Proctor says one of the keys to the process is to not let your vibratory state (which is set by an emotionally energized vision) be influenced by your current conditions.

A negative mind spawns only negative ideas.

It is a physical impossibility for a negative mind to generate positive thoughts. When you allow yourself to dwell on the negative aspects of life, negative thinking expands to fill all of your thoughts until there is no room for positive thoughts to grow. It becomes an endless cycle. The habit of negative thinking generates more and more negative thoughts, which the mind attempts to turn into physical reality. The result is a life of despair and hopelessness. Develop the habit of eliminating negative thoughts the moment they appear. Start small at first. When you first hear that inner voice that says, “I can’t do this,” put the thought out of your mind immediately. Instead, concentrate on the task itself. Break it down into manageable parts and complete them one at a time. When the job is finished, tell your doubting self, “You were wrong. I could do it, and I did!”
----------------

Bob Proctor , mentions that most people let their external world dictate their internal. So negative external events is what they use to create their internal mental images. This sets up a negative or "groundhog day" (1) scenario where they keep repeating the negative events they don't want in their external world by replaying negative events of yesterdays.

It both awareness and will-power to break the cycle and create a new reality. It is important to set aside some time every morning and evening to create in your mind the future you wish to see unfold for you

To be successful in a physical condition program you set a schedule for your workouts.
Set a schedule for your mental workouts.

Successful people, though, are those who accept responsibility for their lives. They know that talk is cheap; actions are all that really matter. The world is waiting for men and women who seek the opportunity to render real service — the kind of service that lightens the burdens of their neighbors, the kind of service that 95 percent of people do not render because they do not understand it. When you provide a truly useful service, enthusiastically and in a spirit of genuine helpfulness, success will automatically follow. The world seeks out such individuals and rewards them accordingly.

Examine most carefully the things you desire most.

Far too many people spend more time planning their weekends than their lives. Then they suddenly realize that life has passed them by and they weren’t even aware it was happening. When you intently study what you most desire in life, you begin to focus your mind and concentrate your energy upon that which you wish to achieve. One of the great advantages of having a definite goal for your life is that it helps you prioritize your activities. When your major purpose is clear in your mind, it is unnecessary to analyze each individual situation. You know automatically whether your actions will move you toward your goal or away from it. You can then use all of your resources — time, money, and energy — to best advantage.

What a man treasures that is where his heart will be.

What you focus upon grows - your dominating thoughts determine your world.

As a man thinketh so is he.

"Money is either a good or bad influence, according to the character of the person who possesses it.

It’s true. Money has no character, no personality, no values. Its actions only reflect the desires of its owner. Money can build great hospitals and schools, or it can be gambled away or squandered on meaningless possessions. Money may build museums to house beautiful works of art, it may construct beautiful houses of worship — or it may be used to create instruments of war and destruction. As you build your personal wealth, make sure you build your character by setting aside a portion of your income to help others. Choose a church, a charity, or a cause that you can enthusiastically support. Then give of your money and your time in support of that cause. The primary beneficiary of such noble actions is always the one who gives, not the one who receives. "

"To receive more, give more." - source forgotten

The idea of priming the pump to start the flow from the source of all.
Then it becomes:

"You can't out give God"

Proverbs 11:24–25
Some give freely, yet grow all the richer;others withhold what is due, and only suffer want.
A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water.

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Templeton became a billionaire[4][5][6][7][8][9] by pioneering the use of globally diversified mutual funds. His Templeton Growth Fund, Ltd. (investment fund), established in 1954, was among the first who invested in Japan in the middle of the 1960s.[10] He is noted for, during the Depression of the 1930s, buying 100 shares of each NYSE listed company which was then selling for less than $1 a share ($17 today) (104 companies, in 1939), later making many times the money back when USA industry picked up as a result of World War II.[11]

In 2006 he was listed in a seven-way tie for 129th place on the Sunday Times's "Rich List". He rejected technical analysis for stock trading, preferring instead to use fundamental analysis.[7] Money magazine in 1999 called him "arguably the greatest global stock picker of the century".[12]

Templeton was one of the most generous philanthropists in history, giving away over $1 billion to charitable causes.[13] Templeton renounced his US citizenship in 1964, allowing him to channel an additional $100 million that he would have paid in US income taxes when he sold his international investment fund, toward philanthropy.[14][15][16] He held dual naturalised Bahamian and British citizenship and lived in the Bahamas.

A friend is one who knows all about you and still respects you.

A true friend is a priceless gift. When we reveal our hopes, our dreams, and our deepest secrets to others, and they still like and respect us, such people are to be cherished. All too often, the only reason others wish to spend time with us — to be our friends — is because of what they perceive we can do for them, not the other way around. A real friendship is reciprocal, one in which each friend benefits equally. You can earn the friendship of others by being the kind of person who deserves respect from friends. When others look up to you, it should make you even more conscious of the responsibility you have to treat them with the same respect you would like them to afford you.

Many times in our lives we encounter problems, day-to-day problems.

We try to solve our problems with standard answers.

Stressed?

"Of, I know we gush:
meditate,
exercise,
have a soaking bath..."

But it isn't a school quiz where naming conventional answers earns us browning points with the teacher.
Just naming solutions leaves us in our right-brain "empirically-validated" responses.

Wonderful - but are you now less stressed? How is it working for you?
If what your rattled worked for you why are you still stressed?

IF your conventional mind and approaches have not worked, take a break from your monkey mind chatter reflex responses.
---------------------

Remember you are a spiritual being in a physical body having a short-lived 80 yr experience, step outside your monkey mind. The solution is there.

Perhaps you have to care for elderly parents, and you find they can be cranky and demanding and you are exhausted and stressed. If you RUN to get them tea and and a pillow - does the situation change? Are they now less demanding?

Ask yourself, what do they really need?

It is not those things.

They need LOVE.

Press flowers in their hearts.

Getting a tea for your dad?
Take time make it with love,
Deliver it with love,
See in your mind you hugging your dad as he was as a young child - happy smiling and full of energy - as you walk to the living room to bring in the tea. See him as a child, joyfully receiving your (psychic) hug and beaming with joy.

You deliver the tea and physical elderly dad grumbles you took to long.
Smile and send more love.

Kind, gentle, compassionate love

Love without cost - love without judgement - love without condition.

Know that inside - the real dad - the spiritual dad received your hug and smiled and was full of joy,

and smile and hug the elderly outside dad.

Friendship recognizes faults in friends but does not speak of them.

True friendship acknowledges imperfections, accepts them as part of our individual makeup, and focuses on our positive aspects instead of expounding upon our faults. Your friends don’t like you to comment upon their failings any more than you like them to criticize you. When your friends are discouraged or disappointed in themselves, a word of encouragement will serve much better than a sermonette. To be the kind of friend you would like to have, be a good listener, offer advice when you are asked for it, and treasure the trust that your friends have placed in you. Praise them for their achievements and sympathize when they fall short, but avoid offering “constructive criticism” or playing devil’s advocate. Most of us expect more from ourselves than anyone else ever would, and we are painfully aware of our shortcomings. We don’t need to be reminded of them by our friends.

The worst thing about worry is that it attracts a whole flock of relatives.

Worries, like sheep, seem to flock together. One worry leads to another, and soon you are overwhelmed with the potential for problems. When you allow yourself to play the “what if?” game — to speculate about additional problems that one potential problem might cause — worries multiply, each making the next seem worse. If you must play the “What if?” game, play it to win. Focus on solutions, not on the problems themselves and the additional problems they might create. However serious your worries may seem when they awaken you at midnight, if you analyze them carefully, you will find that every problem has a solution.

The greatest cure known is work.

Emotions are sometimes strange, volatile, and unpredictable. They do not always respond to logic and reason. They do, however, respond to action. If you have occasional feelings of loneliness, discouragement, or discontentment, the best way to kill such negative emotions is to work them to death. Almost nothing is as bad as it first seems, and there’s nothing like a hard day’s work to put everything in proper perspective. When you begin to feel negative emotions, dwelling on your misfortunes only makes you feel worse. Do your best to put them out of your mind and think about more positive, constructive things. Physical labor can help. Choose a task that doesn’t require a great deal of concentration, and then focus on accomplishing the task at hand.

Profanity is a sign of inadequate vocabulary or unsound judgment — or both.

Mark Twain once observed that “the difference between the right word and the almost-right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” It is never appropriate to use profanity, especially among people you do not know well. Instead, build your vocabulary by reading and studying so that you can express yourself simply and eloquently. When you expand the number of words you know, you also expand your mind, because understanding the words and their meanings necessitates understanding the concepts behind them. Make sure you allow time each day for study and reflection.

Waste no words on a man who dislikes you. Actions will impress him more.

Some people think they can talk their way out of any situation, and for a time they may be right But if someone already dislikes you, either because of a simple misunderstanding or an error in judgment on your part, he or she will be especially difficult to persuade with words. Their emotions will always get in the way of their ability to think logically and reasonably. Consistent actions over a sustained period of time, however, will usually persuade even the most devout skeptic. If you constantly demonstrate that you are a generous, kind, and caring person, it will be very hard for even your enemies to dislike you. In any case, you will become a better person for having made the effort.

When the going is hardest, just keep on keeping on, and you’ll get there sooner than someone who finds the going easy.

If you think achieving great heights of success will be easy, you either don’t understand at all how the process works or you have your sights set too low. Reaching the top of any field is difficult, time-consuming, and often tedious. The reason it isn’t crowded at the top is that most people won’t do the things that are necessary to achieve success. They are all too willing to give up when the going gets tough. If you need inspiration to persevere, read the biographies of men and women who have achieved greatness in their lives. You will find that they prevailed because they refused to quit. They continued to toil alone long after the masses had given up and gone home.

I think it helps when I realize that I will never be materially-abundant to the level I wish. I just don't have enough money to make the money I need to be materially-abundant at the level I want. It takes money to make it, and I gotta' save what I have so I don't lose it all, and think that what I have now makes me materially-abundant, and I should be grateful for it. Is that the wrong attitude?

Complicated issue, for sure.

I have been listening to Bob Proctors' series -
Paradigm Shift
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRO1tLm0PK8
controlling your paradigm (the cluster of habits programmed into our subconscious). This an update of his lectures - which for the most part are a repacking of Think and Grow Rich. I listen to the videos and make notes - which I will post (time permitting) to the Video Summary thread.

--- here is my summary of the process ----

We are spiritual beings. We have magnificent factors and how we use our intellectual factors will dictate our emotional state. Our emotional state will dictate how we act and our results. We need images to guide our subconscious which guide us through our emotions and vibrations.

We think in pictures.
What is the picture of your future?
What do you really want to do? Take a pen an paper and you can decide what your future will be.

The picture of you with a higher self, subconscious mind and body represents us. The power flow through the higher conscious mind which has the ability to control and direct its thoughts. The pictures we empress upon our subconscious mind which must except what it is impressed upon it with emotional energization. The subconscious then sets up the vibration we resonate which controls we we attract. The subconscious hold the habits (our paradigms) which govern our actions and our results.

To truly change our results with must change these subconscious habits programmed into us (our paradigm) and internal self-image.
So to change our actions change our subconscious actions. To change our self-image which is the governor on our potential - what we see as possible for us we must change the picture of ourselves in our subconscious.

The programming was done with repetition and to change it we must use repetition. Those repetitions of new programming must be done with energization (faith, joy etc) to reach and impact the subconscious mind.

I tell them there's no problem, only solutions.

3. I think it helps when I realize that I will never be materially-abundant to the level I wish.

1. I just don't have enough money to make the money I need to be materially-abundant at the level I want. It takes money to make it,

4. I gotta' save what I have so I don't lose it all,

5. [I] think that what I have now makes me materially-abundant, and I should be grateful for it.

Is that the wrong attitude?

Complicated issue, for sure.

[numbers added by me. - aquarian]

Please excuse my numbering. You touch upon many issues and to respond I feel I needed to separate them.

Well first it is your life - so right or wrong attitudes is up to what you are trying to do with your life, that is there is no right or wrong - rather what is effective for you to achieve what you want to achieve.

re #5: Certainly this is a healthy and correct attitude. In the western world most of us are very material abundant especially in comparison to 90% of the world. Also to receive more being grateful for what you have is a cornerstone attitude. "The universe loves the attitude of gratitude." "To those who have more shall be given."

Above I have posted a summary of the process (the theory that I am working with to create my reality). I do not have great material wealth manifested (though in my mind it is there for my future self).

I do have great health. I am happy and positive. I am working hard to create a great life (of achievement). However my spiritual health - being a good person - is far more important to me than the treasures that rust and rot.

I would suggest you go through the video series and decide for yourself what is possible for you,

I believe YOU have great potential for anything (including financial abundance) if you can see it and believe it

If we have faith and we believe we can receive it (and believe you have already received it) - we shall.
(paraphrase of Mark 11;22-24)

Great things aren't necessarily easy - but that doesn't stop them from being achieved.

...I do have great health. I am happy and positive...

And without our health, we are doomed. Maybe there is a point in our lives where we get back to the basics, such as that.

I am so so grateful I am in the state I am in, as compared to where I could have been. I do be a bit weary here and there, some joints creak, I have painful complaints from the body that crop up now and again, but it is manageable.

Lists help...Like this.

-----------------------------

I am grateful for still having all four limbs, and all internal organs. (Just not the wisdom teeth, they are starting to bother me.)

I am grateful for having all five senses, and especially for still having super-great hearing as I pass-through mid-life. I can still hear a pin drop in the next county.

I am grateful I do not have a genetic dis-ease.

I am grateful I have a home to live in, and friends to love me when I am down, and to yell at me when I mess up.

I am grateful that I still have a small bit of family left who love me, even though we are distant. It is comforting knowing they are still there, even though we are thousands of miles apart.

I am grateful I am in a place where I can learn to trade, and have the means to make it happen. It is my opportunity to be self-sufficient on a level that I could not afford 30+ years ago.

I am grateful for the ability to type what I wish (within reason) on this forum because of all the US military folks who are sacrificing themselves to afford me this freedom.

--------------

I suppose I could go on, but you get the point. :-)

So do I have abundance? Yes, I suppose I do, considering the brief list above. I do not need to go through the video series you have posted, as I have seen them all and then some. This is not a conceit, just a truth.

There is nothing new anyone can say, no new angle anyone can place upon, what philosophers have been going on about for thousands of years. It's the same old stuff.

Material-abundance though? Hrmm. I'd like a bigger piece of that pie before I depart this earth. Would be fun to experience, for once.

Life is large. Live it and love it, because it does not come often. Something like that. (Paraphrasing, hehe.)

Norman V Peale - The Power of the Plus Factor

Chapter 10 - How the Plus Factor Lends Reality to Hope

"Is there a difference between hoping an wishing? Yes there is.
Hope has the quality of expectancy in it." p91
-----------

Re difficult times:
"You can even begin to enjoy this sense of hopelessness, In a perverse sort of way. It gives you an excuse for not trying to improve the situation!" p94
----------

"You should never write off anything as impossible or as a failure.
...
"The hopeful thinker projects hope and faith into the darkest situation and lights it up." p90

"if you look through history you will see many shining examples of where a single man or woman has brought hope and courage and endurance to a whole nation: Winston Churchill in the Battle of Britain, George Washington at Valley Forge,..."p89

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 4, 1902. His father died in 1905 leaving his family in debt. In 1908 he hawked newspapers on the South Side of Chicago, while his mother worked as a dressmaker. By 1915 he owned his own newsstand. In 1918 he moved to Detroit to sell casualty insurance for his mother.[1]

[1902-2002= 100 years]

Stone dropped out of high school to sell insurance full-time. He later received a diploma from the YMCA Central High School in Chicago. He later took courses at Detroit College of Law and Northwestern University.[1]

Much of what is known about Stone comes from his autobiography The Success System That Never Fails.[2] In that book, he tells of his early business life which started with the selling of newspapers in restaurants. At the time, this was a very novel thing to do, which deviated dramatically from the normal practice of young boys hawking newspapers on street corners.

At first, the managers of restaurants tried to discourage him from this practice, but he gradually won them over by his politeness, charm, persistence and the fact that by and large, the patrons of the restaurants had no objection to this new way of selling his newspapers.

From there, he graduated to selling insurance policies very successfully in the offices of downtown businesses. His mother was the initiator of his new career, and together, they did quite well, she as the manager of the business, and he as the salesperson.

Stone ran $100 into millions with a strong desire to succeed and by putting into practice the principles in the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.[1][3][4]

He was the living example of the proverbial rags-to-riches protagonist in Horatio Alger's stories he loved so much. Eventually he became an 'angel' to others lifting some from the gutter, to incredible heights. One of his great successes was Og Mandino, an alcoholic at the time whom Stone took under his wing. The relationship engendered a new life for Mandino who became the publisher of Success Magazine at the time. In 1978, Stone met an aggressive young securities broker named Christopher Nolan and recruited him to become his Director of Education for the Entrepreneurship Forums. The forums were created by Stone to educate aspiring business owners in developing new business in Chicago.

In 1919, Stone built the Combined Insurance Company of America (a company providing accident and health insurance coverage) and by 1930, he had over 1000 agents selling insurance for him across the United States.[2] By 1979, his insurance company exceeded $1 billion in assets. Combined later merged with the Ryan Insurance Group to form Aon Corporation in 1987.,[2] and Combined was later spun off by Aon to ACE Limited in April 2008 for $2.56 billion.[5]

A proponent of the motivational book Think and Grow Rich by Hill, Stone associated with Hill to teach the Philosophy of Personal Achievement “Science of Success" course. Stone wrote: "One of the most important days in my life was the day I began to read Think and Grow Rich in 1937.[6][7] Stone said that the Bible was “the world's greatest self-help book".[8]

Stone explained the importance of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) in his last interview not long before dying. Stone said: "A positive mental attitude is necessary for achieving worthwhile success. We in America know what it is for us, for we have inherited the tenets of the Judeo-Christian faiths on which our Constitution, laws and customs have been based.... Strive to understand and apply the Golden Rule.... Believe that any goal that doesn’t violate the laws of God or the rights of your fellow men can be achieved.... I attended one of the PMA rallies in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1976. I'll never forget Stone, the MC of the event; and how he leapt on the stage, grabbed the microphone and shouted: I feel healthy! I feel happy! I feel terrific! It gave me goosebumps. At the time, he was 74 years old; and possessed the energy of a man in his thirties." ~ M.L. Harris, author.[4]

Stone emphasized using a "positive mental attitude" to succeed.[1] Stone adopted the motto of his mentor, Napoleon Hill, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve (with PMA)."[9] In 1960, Stone teamed up with Napoleon Hill to author Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.[10] The book Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude includes the following testimonial from the Rev. Robert H. Schuller on the inside front cover page: "Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude is one of the ten books that has most impacted my faith and my philosophy...no person's education is complete without the concepts articulated in it so wisely and so well."[11] Norman Vincent Peale said that Stone and Hill "have the rare gift of inspiring and helping people...In fact, I owe them both a personal debt of gratitude for the helpful guidance I have received from their writings."[12] Stone and Hill also founded a monthly digest magazine, entitled Success Unlimited.[7] In 1962, Stone wrote the Success System That Never Fails, in which he suggested how to become successful and have a healthy, productive lifestyle.[13] In 1964, he and Norma Lee Browning collaborated on writing The Other Side of the Mind.[14]

He died on September 3, 2002 in Evanston, Illinois.[1]

You must keep your mind sharply focused on your goals, and you must have a grounding philosophy that sustains you when the going is tough. When you apply the principles of success consistently until they become a part of you, no longer will you have to stop and think about what you should do in any given situation. Your positive response will be automatic. Make sure you spend time in reflection and study. Clearly establish your goals and develop a plan and timetable for their achievement. Read the works of motivational writers and the great philosophers, and use the knowledge you gain to develop your own code of conduct. Establish your own philosophy of success that you can stick with — day in and day out — regardless of what the rest of the world does.

"Paradigms are built through repetition. That is why repetition is necessary. We have gotten to the point where we only want to go through it once."

This is quite true.

My approach to repetition is through my daily morning journal.

I have a template or form that I use for the journal. This template contains items to be filled in, such as what time I went to bed and what I ate for dinner, what I did during the day. What frogs I ate, and what ones I am going to eat today.

The Template also contains a list of my most important Rules, both for life and for trading. I am forced to read them every morning, first thing.

This also requires me to write out my three major goals and upcoming milestones on the goals. Every day I repeat the focus on these goals. As a result you could wake me out of a dead sleep and I could recite them instantly, like my name rank and serial number.

There is also a block text of my "ideal case for the year" statement. I reread this every day. I keep the vision very clear in mind as a result.

Also there are a bunch of questions that I want to ask myself on a regular basis.

I am constantly adding to and changing the journal format.

Repetition. I review the journal on Sundays and summarize according to another template, answering questions about the week. Same goes for the month, quarter and year. This takes time, but it's time I used to waste on Facebook.

So there is a great deal of repetition, and this is one way I reprogram myself.

It is very effective.

One of the surest ways to achieve success is to observe the actions of successful people, determine what principles they regularly employ, and then use them yourself. The principles of success, as Andrew Carnegie said, are definite, they are real, and they can be learned by anyone willing to take the time to study and apply them. If you are truly observant, you will find that you can learn something from almost everyone you meet. And it isn’t even necessary that you know them. You may choose great people who are no longer alive. The important thing is to study their lives, and then learn and apply in your own life the specific principles these people used to achieve greatness.

Write a new program for your life

Bob reprogammed himself and changed from always losing to having everything work out for him. It change like night and day, everyhting turned to gold.

He play the same record over and over again (condensed summary of Think and Grow Rich) and kept reading the same book over and over and over again (Think and Grow Rich). He was writing a new program for his life. Soon everything was working our for him, he was making money, he wasn't getting sick anymore.

You were born with a control mechanism in you.
The control mechanism in you was initially programmed by others (parents, older siblings, teachers etc)
The control mechanism will determine whether you win or lose, whether you live in abundance or poverty.
You can reprogram the control mechanism, but the choice is up to you.

[You must take the effort and do it, not intellectual understand that it exists, but build the new program and re-program yourself. It requires repetition to enter the program just as many repetitions were used to enter the initial program.]

When you work with others, concentrate on their positive attributes, not on the things they dislike or fear. When you take the time to get to know your associates, to learn about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations, you can determine what motivates them. You can then show them how they can align their goals with yours to work together for your mutual advantage. When you do, everybody wins.

Bob was doing things without knowing why he was doing them and getting results he didn't want to get. And he and other didn't know why he was doing these things; the program was controlling his actions.

I have worked with some of the most brilliant people in the world and I have found out you and I are programmed.
If you don't learn to change the program [and take the steps to change the program] nothing is going to happen.
You see most people wouldn't even think of changing the programming.
The program controls the thinking.

No one sold $5M of insurance because no one had ever done it.
Because no one had ever done something is a good reason to do it.

I have been listening to the Bob Proctor videos on youtube (first one)
1. Paradigm Shift Bob Proctor - Winning vs. Losing - Ep. 1

--------------
As I listen I have been taking notes - like a transcript of all the key points. The process involves listening and re-listening to the same episode over and over again - editing the notes and adding in bits I have missed. I seem to catch more each time through.
A result of this repetitive listening seems to be:
  • feeling more positive
  • ideas for making money seem to be flowing to me.
  • interesting positive things happening - people providing resources, information and so on to assist my progress
  • taking action on things right away - not just "making a note for later"

Here is a visualization that I have been working on over the past few months, inspired by this thread. It starts off with a visualization of stoic emotions and control in the face of volatility, then to purging of negative emotions, to indifference to outcome. My team comes in to help with the harvest, everyone is thanked and rewarded, then we share in the bounty:
On the seashore, a boulder on the beach washed by waves, does not move, anchored deeply to bedrock, water is neither hot not cold, no feeling of temperature or anything, waves go out, carrying with them everything that needs to be let go of, fear, anger, greed, envy and restenment and other stuff that the rock desires never to give up, and the the surf grinds all that stuff down into very fine white sand, shaped like tiny zeroes, zeroing it all out. Noting left but a beach full of white sand zeroes. The tide then comes back in and takes another load of stuff out, and again and again.

Eventually the tide washes back in with a single 10000 yen banknote, which lands on the rock and sticks to the rock like a piece of seaweed, while the tide keeps going back out and coming back int.

The adored youngest daughter runs up and gleefully peels the pretty banknote off the rock and runs to hang it up to dry on seeweed drying racks on the seashore. Soon many, many more of these notes are washing up with each tide, and they form a tangled mass on the beach.

All the family, womenfolk, and A-list friends join in gleefully to pick the shore and hang the banknotes to dry. Then the little girls drive up in a big red farm produce truck and load the hopper with dried notes. They doing somersaults on the pile of money in the truck. Then it goes to the workshop where it's all dumped, onto the meticulous white epoxy floor, then is shoveled into the hopper on the cleaning machine.

Then the womenfolk wear white glves and smocks and count the money in overworked money counting machines and band it and stack it on a big palette. I come and record the final tally on my clipboard, then shrinkwrap the palette of money with clear plastic and forklift it through the circular door on my large walk-in safe, stacking it with the other palettes of money. I toss a banded million-yen bundle that's been set aside to each person on the team.

Then we all go outside into the the festively decorated garden to a barbecue party with life music. I man the barbecue in a big chef's hat, and I roast a pig on a spit. We have a long table and I sit a the head of it and toast the whole party with a speech of gratitude for the contributions of everyone.

Your own mental attitude is your real boss.

While your time and your labor may be subject to the demands of your employer and others, your mind is the one thing that cannot be controlled by anyone but you. The thoughts you think, your attitude toward your job, and what you are willing to give in exchange for the compensation you are paid are entirely up to you. It is up to you to determine whether you will be a slave to a negative attitude or the master of a positive one. Your attitude, your only master in life, is entirely within your control. When you control your attitude toward events, you control the eventual implication of those events.

Thanks for sharing the visualization. It sounds great.
The cleansing of emotions is very good.

Also, I like that you include others in your bounty and certainly your giving nature will help align you with the power of good and abundance (though I realize you didn't do it for that reason but rather as part of a deeper understanding on your part).

Thanks again!

No matter how carefully you study a subject, no matter how rationally you make decisions, no matter how well prepared you are, you will occasionally make mistakes. Human beings always do. The important thing is to realize that temporary setbacks are not permanent failures. Successful people recognize that we all experience temporary setbacks that require us to reevaluate our performance and take corrective action to achieve success. They know that adversity is never permanent.

Somewhere, as you read, the secret to which I refer will jump from the page and stand boldly before you, if you are ready for it! When it appears, you will recognize it. Whether you receive the sign in the first or the last chapter, stop for a moment when it presents itself, and turn down a glass, for that occasion will mark the most important turning-point of your life.

[the secret he is speaking of is that in his book Think & Grow Rich]

No action takes place unless it is preceded by thought. If you’re unhappy with the circumstances in which you find yourself, you can improve your situation through the power of thought, just as surely as you can destroy a positive life with negative thinking. Success begins with an honest analysis of your present condition, acceptance of responsibility for your own life, and the development of a workable plan to achieve what you desire.

Unless we learn from our mistakes, we are likely to repeat them until we learn from such experiences and correct our course — or give up and accept temporary defeat as permanent failure. Every setback you encounter in life contains valuable information that, if you study it carefully, will eventually lead you to success. Without adversity, you would never develop wisdom, and without wisdom, success would be short-lived indeed. When you make a mistake, say, “That’s good! I’ve gotten that out of the way. I will never do that again.” You will no doubt make other mistakes, but they won’t bother you nearly as much when you treat them as learning experiences.

Control your own mind, and you may never be controlled by the mind of another.

The mind is the most powerful weapon known to man. It simply cannot be controlled or contained by an outside force, however formidable that force may at first appear. Throughout history, tyrants have tried to control those who opposed them, but eventually these rulers discovered the power of the imagination was far greater than the threat of the sword. As Victor Hugo said, “An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.

From Bob Proctor videos:
  • Most people let outside events, thing reaching them through their 5 senses control their thoughts.
  • Use your power of will to focus and hold your thought upon your goal.
  • Nothing happens as long as the thought stays in the conscious mind.
  • Once the thought is put into the subconscious mind that is when things start to happen.
  • An ideal is an idea you have fallen in love with.
  • Create an image that produces the vibration you need to be in to attract your goal

The thought I had yesterday was that I need to create a visualization that creates a feeling of great joy in my when I hold it in my mind.

Clement Stone often says, “The emotions are not always subject to reason, but they are always subject to action!” Determine what you are best at and what you like to do, and develop a burning desire to be the best you can be at it. Then get into action!

I started this thread because though I understand intellectually visualizations power (and I am wonder at negative ones! -LOL) I seem to be block in executing positive ones.

When I wake in the morning it take me a while to shake off the negative mood (sometimes compounded by worry dreams etc). I am not easily able to move quickly to positive state.

In The Magic Word - WD Gann, he recommends chanting the magic word - stressing it is the vibration within your body that is the key. He prefers "Jehovah" (but mentions other words will work as well). For myself it has a neutral feel to it.

So in the shower I say"
"Jehovah.
I have $x million dollars.
Jehovah.
I have $x million dollars."
... repeating..

It helps me move from negative to neutral and then neutral to positive.

Some individuals appear to be “allergic” to honest work, but opportunity is equally allergic to them.

You may fake it for a time, pretending that you’re giving an honest effort, but eventually you will be measured by your deeds, not by your words.

If you are more of a talker than a doer, make a vow today — right now — to change your behavior. You may be able to drift through life if you never do more than you are required to do, but you will never know what you might have achieved if you had only been willing to give a little more.

The greatest opportunities always go to those who have an affinity for hard work, not an allergy to it.

Opportunity never sneaks up on those who straddle the fence of indecision.

Successful people are decisive people. When opportunities come their way, they evaluate them carefully, make a decision, and take appropriate action. They know that indecision wastes time that could be spent on more productive tasks. They also avoid unnecessary risks by implementing their decisions gradually. They don’t attempt to make every decision at the beginning. Each action is contingent upon the success of the one that preceded it. Benjamin Franklin, one of America’s wisest men, is said to have used a simple method to make difficult decisions. He drew a line down the center of a sheet of paper, and on one side he listed the “pros” of the decision; on the other, he listed the “cons.” In addition to simplifying the decision-making process, the list also served as a graphic illustration of the advantages and disadvantages of any decision, regardless of its complexity. The impact of the decision could then be quickly and easily assessed.

In trading we face them all the time.

Indecision can cost us with a late entry causing a potential profitable trade to slip negative as the juiciest part of the move we sat on the sidelines and then entered just as a retracement was starting.

Entering too early, before the setup has completed, can cost us by getting us into a trade we soon wish we hadn't entered.

Entering at just the right time is crucial to reduce the heat of a trade. We need to make decisions quickly and correctly, have confidence in our judgement, and flexibility to know when the tide has turned against us.

I think all these things require planning out our strategies clearly and definitely so we can enter
  1. only on those trades we want
  2. at just the right time - neither hesitating now jumping the gun
A fine art - a difficult craft

When you apply your faith in yourself, your faith in your fellow man, and your faith in God, the result is a positive course of action that when persistently followed will almost always lead to success. When you believe in your ideas and in your abilities, and you trust in the Infinite Intelligence of the universe, you know that your thoughts and deeds will ultimately lead to a successful conclusion. You cannot fail.

I'm a firm believer in the mantra that luck is where preparation meets opportunity. I'm also a firm believer in visualization. You have to see...and I mean clearly see, repeatedly and consistently...your positive end results. You have to make the end result happen and you must make the effort to get there.

Kyle Schwarber of the Chicago Cubs was was asked about how he came back to play, and hit well, in the World Series after missing all but a handful of the first few games this year. He called out visualization. He stood in the box and took thousands of simulated pitches from the Jugs machine. He was working on his eye and his timing. He also spent hours away from the field literally visualizing his at bats. He performed the necessary visual, physical and mental practice required to compete at the highest level.

“Visualization is a very powerful tool,” Schwarber said, “and I believe in that.”

The founder of the Piggly Wiggly grocery chain was a low-level employee in a corner grocery when he visited a cafeteria and got the idea that the same techniques could be applied to the grocery business. He was ridiculed by experts, but he was convinced that the idea was a good one. Saunders persevered, and his adaptation of the self-service idea to the grocery business led him to become the father of the modern supermarket. It is often true that a great idea alone is not enough to achieve success. Implementation may require as much as or more imagination than coming up with the idea originally. Those who study such things, however, report that when you have a really good idea, even if you can’t prove it, you will intuitively know that it is good. If you’re convinced, stick with it. Others will eventually recognize the value of your idea.

The going is always hard on the road to greatness. If success were easy, everyone would achieve it. NFL All-Pro lineman Brian Holloway recalled that when he was playing for the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Raiders, there wasn’t a single day when he didn’t feel like giving up because the road was too tough and the sacrifices were too great. He didn’t quit, of course; he was willing to pay the price because he was determined to succeed.

.... Competition ... spurs them, and obstacles ... reinforce their determination to succeed.

Change your mental attitude, and the world around you will change accordingly.

Your world will become what you choose to make it. You can reach great heights of success, or you can settle for a miserable life that is devoid of hope. The choice is yours. When you choose a positive course, you set in motion an unstoppable force that will allow you to have a fulfilling career, the love of your family and friends, good physical and mental health, and all of the other true riches of life. To change your world, you must change it from the inside out. You must begin with yourself. When you choose the course that puts your life on a positive track, you will change your life for the better, and you will also positively influence the people with whom you come in contact.

There is no one right answer — but an endless number of right answers — to most of life’s problems. Usually, your options are many and varied; the difficulty lies in choosing the best alternative from among many, all in a reasonable time frame. If you devote yourself to making small decisions promptly, you will find it much easier to be decisive when the stakes are much bigger. Most important, you’ll find making decisions and acting on them far easier if you act promptly.

Edison failed 10,000 times before perfecting the incandescent electric light bulb. Don’t worry if you fail once.

Arguably America’s greatest inventor, Thomas Edison had an extraordinarily positive perception of life that greatly enhanced his ability as an inventor. When others might have been hopelessly discouraged after failing thousands of times in an attempt to develop an electric light, the great Edison simply viewed each unsuccessful experiment as the elimination of a solution that wouldn’t work, thereby moving him that much closer to a successful solution. We could all take a lesson from Edison. Stories abound about inventors who quit trying and gave up too soon or miners who struck gold just a few feet beyond where someone else quit digging. There are few obstacles in life that will not succumb to consistent, sustained, intelligent, positive action. When you are discouraged after you’ve failed at something, remember Edison’s 10,000 failures before he arrived at the solution that forever changed the world.

If you are worried or afraid of anything, there is something in your mental attitude that needs correction.

Worry and fear are negative emotions that serve no useful purpose. Worse, they are not benign influences on your behavior. Both tend to expand if left unchecked until they crowd out positive emotions and beliefs, taking over your mind and filling it with counterproductive emotions that cause you to doubt your ability to succeed at anything you attempt. Unless you control worry and fear, one day you will discover that they control you. While the emotions can’t always be corrected with logic or reason, they are always susceptible to action. Act, and even if your actions aren’t entirely appropriate for the situation, the very act of doing something — anything — constructive will have a positive effect on your mind and attitude.

The imagination is the workshop of the soul, where are shaped all the plans for individual achievement.

Before you can build anything worthwhile, you must first create it in your mind. Your mind is not constrained by physical limitations or boundaries. In the workshop of your mind, you can visualize things that have never been.

You can use the power of your imagination to visualize solutions to difficult problems, to develop new ideas, and to see yourself achieving the goals you have set for yourself.

A better understanding of what you are about — your goals, your dreams, and your aspirations — leads you to a better understanding of those around you. It is critical, therefore, that you be honest with yourself at all times.

The moment you begin to deceive yourself is the beginning of the decline in your character; it is the beginning of a process of rationalization that permits you to justify unacceptable behavior. Make sure you are a person whom you like, a person of sound character.

If you don’t like yourself, how can you expect others to like you? Step back and examine your behavior as logically as possible. Ask yourself, “Am I the kind of person I would like to be with?” Developing good character traits is like achieving any other objective.

Determine where you wish to be and then develop a plan for getting there.

Opportunity has a queer way of stalking the person who can recognize it and is ready to embrace it.

It is a curious quirk of human nature that some people can see opportunities, while others only see problems. When you train your mind to seek out opportunities, you will find that every day literally presents you with more opportunities than you can take advantage of. They will be all around you. Instead of your seeking opportunities, they will seek you out. Your biggest problem will be choosing the best ones. The first step in making sure you are ready to recognize opportunities when they occur is to make sure you have a clear understanding of your own core competencies. Realistically assess your strengths and weaknesses as though you were reviewing the credentials of a total stranger. Identify what areas you’re best in and those where you need improvement. Work on your weaknesses and build upon your strengths so that when you recognize opportunities you are prepared to capitalize upon them.

you would if you were the others.

The Golden Rule is more than a principle of ethical behavior; it is a dynamic force that can work good in the lives of untold numbers of people. When you make it a practice to treat others as though you were the others, you spread goodwill among people who, in turn, may be moved to do the same. By their actions, they influence still more people, who generate goodwill among even more people. This force for goodwill increases exponentially and will return to you from totally new sources. The benefit you receive from a good deed performed today by a total stranger may have been a chain reaction from long ago when you observed the Golden Rule in your own dealings with another.
