I always turn on Pandora.com and either listen to Golden Earring Channel or Classical Music

.....I'm trying to get back into vinyl too...I have a decent jazz fusion collection that I got all from thrift stores in the 90s.
I think the music business ultimately needs vinyl to inject some money back into the music economy.

This is the system I have:
Music Hall MMF 2.2 for Turntable
Ortofon 2M Blue Phono Cartridge
Project SpeedBox 2 for the 33/45 conversion (increases sound quality tremendously)
Speakers: Joseph Audio RML7
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V861
CD/DVD still thinking...the pioneer "elite" BDP-23FD is ok..there are better for this price.

Music is a good source to relive stress at the end of the trading day.

I'm very curious to find out your responses about this, and was quite reluctant as to where to start this thread.

I think it has a lot to do with trading psychology so i guess this is the right place, with the right people to debate what's truly behind your answers.

Please be honest, as i would like to see the environment in which most traders achieve better performance.

So:
  • What kind of music/bands do you like to hear while trading, if any?
  • Do you like, turning the news on, and listen as a background?
  • Do you have any feed from a certain trading room, or floor?
  • Does Granma chatting with your neighbours calm you enough to make your mind at ease while trading?
  • Do you enjoy sweet silence to hear your own toughts?
  • Do you have a mood-setting ritual prior to start trading, or do you just sit at the pc and work to whatever's on TV?
  • Have you even ever tought about this? how the athmosphere set could affect your trading performance, and how you could enhance it?
Please share your thoughts.
FREDY

First choice: Seal. <-- this is my work music. Nothing better to trade or write code to.

Second choice: Mozart piano sonata's, any and all, or Bach, Beethoven, Brahms Mozart piano concerto's

Third choice: My mega mix: Seal, Beatles, Led Zepplin, U2, Prince, Sheyrl Crow, CCR, Eagles, Sinatra, Simon & Garfunkel, AC/DC, Van Halen, PM Dawn

Fourth choice: all other music: pop, rock, rap, big band with a dash of country. <--- this mix drives my wife crazy! One minute your listening to Eminem, lose yourself, then comes John Lennon Imagine, then Strike it up then Sammy Davis Jr! Works for me though!

For the record, I am a bit of a music freak. Currently have 14,000+ songs in my collection.

If I REALLY need to focus then I might have silence, but occasionally I'll listen to "easy listening" Baroque for background music. Most other music, including Classical, can be too jarring or rhythmic distracting me. Check out Sunday Baroque for a good streaming source.

I'd get wayyy too distracted listening to music

Something like rainforest noises on youtube, I love the sound of rain.

music is very important for me when trading, it actually helps me keep focused and not lose my sanity being alone. When there is complete silence I tend to get a little absorbed in my own thoughts rather than being positively guided by music.

The music has to be the right type and that usually means no vocals. I enjoy pure instrumentals and something that resonates with my mood

Buckethead is a good candidate

the atmospheric guitar lead and riffs are unparalleled
