I have been seeing a psychologist for about 6 months now and have found it a very rewarding experience, especially as it brought mindfulness to my attention.

Daniel Siegels books are good. Some other authors were a bit too 'vegetarian' or 'spiritual' for my liking. Daniel is more sciencey in his explanations.

Mindfulness techniques help in all aspects of life in my opinion. It makes it very hard for you to get into an argument with someone. First of all, you will be very aware of why the other person is reacting the way they are and be somewhat sympathetic that they are not mindful of what is driving their reactions.

In addition, whilst your own negative reactions may come to mind, they are neutralized by the fact you are observing them dispassionately, understanding them for what they are and putting them in perspective and dealing with the situation calmly. That REALLY pisses my wife off.

It has now been 3 months since I have physically assaulted a taxi driver, which is a record for me, so it must be doing some good.
