Just wanted to say thanks for brining this book to my attention. I purchased it and almost done and found it a new look on an old subject of mindfulness.

Thanks again

Excellent! I'm glad you're finding it helpful.

Same with me. I've been involved with "positive thinking" stuff since I was in my teens (because my parents were reading those kinds of books), and then meditating, visualizing, etc. But this book has given me a clearer way of looking at and approaching all of that.

I found the path of mindfulness many years back. I am glad to see others taking the journey. Being aware of what you are doing while you are doing it is a powerful experience. If you truely embrace midfulness you will be able to discover your deepest fears and greatest joys and act upon them in a positive way. It will truely change your life.

With mindfulness, taking a simple step forward will never be the same again...

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by this thread and share that.

And because you've been through it, I welcome any insights or feedback you may have as I try to share my experiences here.

Thank you.

Hi D4YTR4D3R,

Thanks for the thread and sharing your experience. I just watched the youtube video you linked in your first post. Some of his ideas remind a lot on a book I read a while ago.
It is "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckardt Tolle". This book helped me to see some things in from a different angle. Maybe you will like this as well.

A New Twist

I started doing something a little different a few days ago and it has made a significant difference in the focus I have during my meditation.

In chapter three Meng talks about Mindful Activity and says that during the activity (such as walking) you might say things (such as "lifting, lifting" as you're lifting your foot) to help you stay focused on the activity.

I decided to try something similar with my meditation.

On my (deep) breath in I say "breathing in." When I've finished the breath in, I say, "pausing." On the exhale, I say, "breathing out." And when I've finished the exhale I say, "resting" (in fact I may say "resting" more than once because I usually spend several moments there between breaths).

I'm finding that I am more aware when my mind is wandering now, and I'm clearer about getting back to my meditation.

I feel like my meditation is both more relaxed and more effective now.

you might try a longer phrase so you dont repeat. This is what I use:

I know what I breath in.

I know what I breath out.

Edit:

Here is a variation:

I know when I breath in.

I know when I breath out.

Excellent!

I thought maybe I was using a "crutch" by doing what I was doing and since I made it up myself, the only thing I knew for sure was that it was helping me.

But it's fantastic to see that you do something similar, and I like the variation - I'll try it today!

I really appreciate you sharing that. Thank you!

Good and valuable thread,

Here are two inexpensive and very valuable books complete with CDs for your meditation trading. I have both:

Mindfulness for Dummies

Mindfulness - Eight Week Plan for Finding Peace in a Frantic World

Be 'mindful' of not trying to read/do too much. One good book is more than enough.

Mindfulness

I purchased the book mentioned by RichardHK a few weeks ago "Mindfulness - Eight Week Plan for Finding Peace in a Frantic World", before I found this thread today. It's a pretty simple and concise guide for beginning a meditation practice. It takes you through 1-2 meditations/day and only takes up about 20-30 mins/day. I was cruising along for awhile but now I'm into week 7 and really struggling to keep up with it. The book makes a point of telling you that you just have to do the meditations b/c it will help you regardless of how you get them done. In other words, you can't do them wrong as was already pointed out in this thread. The meditations aren't very long, but my mind is racing during them. Since I'm struggling with my trading, I struggle to maintain focus for even a couple mins b/c I feel like I need to be doing other things. Just venting my frustrations...
