Just read this interesting piece from Jim Rohn on connection between discipline and self-worth. Enjoy.

"Here is the greatest value of discipline: self-worth, also known as self-esteem. Many people who are teaching self-esteem these days don't connect it to discipline. But once we sense the least lack of discipline within ourselves, it starts to erode our psyche. One of the greatest temptations is to just ease up a little bit. Instead of doing your best, you allow yourself to do just a little less than your best. Sure enough, you've started in the slightest way to decrease your sense of self-worth.

There is a problem with even a little bit of neglect. Neglect starts as an infection. If you don't take care of it, it becomes a disease. And one neglect leads to another. Worst of all, when neglect starts, it diminishes our self-worth.

Once this has happened, how can you regain your self-respect? All you have to do is act now! Start with the smallest discipline that corresponds to your own philosophy. Make the commitment: "I will discipline myself to achieve my goals so that in the years ahead I can celebrate my successes.""

You are never in the wrong place... but sometimes you are in the right place looking at things in the wrong way.

Nicely put. Setting goals is crucial for anything in life. I make a "to do" list every day, no matter how small. And even if I don't cross off everything, I can at least say, "I was able to cross of X number of items."

Little by little, week after week, you will have moved surprisingly far if you take things in small, discrete increments (which is difficult).

This is how I strive to do things in my life and it isn't always easy!

in fact it isn't easy...

i have several disciplines in my daily life and i can tell you maintan all requires: effort , patient and most of all will power..! and some hope too, if you fail you can't sit and think and cry..! you must go ahead..

in my personal instance im quiting smoke so i realized that i can't actually drop it all at once, i used to buy a package every day so as u see is very un-healthy, now im on a very tough discipline of smoking 4 cigarettes a day on some especific times, 8:00 a.m - 12:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m , after a while on this an get used i will lower to 3 and so on...

but since this isn't a smoke help page... i will talk about trading... i am very inexperiencied on it and im also young person... so sometimes i just want to give up, i can see the big picture yet.. i have like 2 months studing the markets and doing and online internet course... what im working on is on the discipline of:

-- read forums and post thread
-- every day watch bloomberg tv
-- try to read and analize every piece of information i have...
-- add stocks to my watchlist, analize their news..

im also studing english languaje as im from colombia and not very fluent... so my recommendation : discipline doesn't come alone and is hard to achieve, IMO the only way to be success in it is to:

see it as a way of life..

My favorite book on Discipline topic is "Neuropsychology of Self-Discipline". you'll find out the secrets of the world's most highly disciplined achievers. I'd highly recommend it.

Hope that helps.

hi limitless

I'd be interested to know a bit more about this book. Would you mind sharing a few of the things you like about it?

Hi xplorer,

This book is about creating the power of self discipline & motivation in life. It's all about Defined Purpose, Models of possibility, Vision, Desire and passion, planning, learning, and persistence.
In my opinion, SELF DISCIPLINE is the only quality which sets one person apart from another. Without self discipline, even the simplest goal can seem like the impossible dream. Self discipline is at the root of success.

Hope that helps.

The only one I was able to find is this one

The Neuropsychology of Self-Discipline: The Master Key to Success by Sybervision ? Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

But this is an audio book, not a book per se.

Were you referring to this one?

Just start doing things when they come up, don't wait for the 'ideal time' or when you 'feel like' doing them. After a while you get it.
