The problem of NinjaTrader is its complexity. If you compare to TradeStation, it is still young, and it is coming with more features. There is know-how required, and the learning curve takes some time. NinjaTrader does -> data feeds -> order execution -> charting > trade metrics -> backtesting -> automated trading.
If you have a datafeed, do you need to put all this into one piece of software? The answer is no. It is just convenience that lets you do this. Anyhow you don't want to backtest a system on your trading machine, do you? NinjaTrader's strengths are its Zenfire datafeed, its order execution and the associated charting.
I have some reserves to use the trade metrics, after I learned that NT 6.5 added Dollars to Euros. So I just review my trades in Excel. The same applies to backtesting.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
One of my goals was to see just how hard NinjaTrader7 Beta 17 can be pushed.
Here it is: This night I traded close to 50,000 contracts. In Sim, of course. As I do not have the bank-roll to enter into 50,000 contracts. Also did a few real trades and checked them against my brokerage statement - it was accurate.
But look at this, there are 27,500 contracts in the chart trader. Yes, it did slow down a little when I was moving the outer Buy-Stop and lower Sell limit. But smaller ones like shown (100 cars) moved easily.
I normally do not post crazy stuff in the open area of the forum. But today I wanted to show what this program can do, even when pushed harder than I probably ever will with real $$$.
I keep seeing the reluctance to go to NT7 in several threads.
The number of submissions on the forum for 6.5 is dropping rapidly. While I understand inertia, the momentum has shifted to better and better betas. A super majority of the really new and innovative work is being done for 7, not 6.5.
Yes, there will be a beta 19, but I am guessing that 20 will become the Official NT7 release.
This week I traded live with beta 18 and it preformed exactly like it did when I was still testing it in sim.
Have attached the brokerage statement to back up the trades listed on the chart. I call this the rapid click exit method. Once the price stalled I began unwind my 10 car position, 1 click at a time.
Have used limits as well as stops and ALL trades are entered, positioned and exited using chart trader with an ATM strategy.
There are still a few problems, but it is good enough for me to trade live with it.
Disclaimer: Always have your trade desk on speed dial if you trade live. Call them before ever making a real $$$ trade to gauge the response time.

I'm making a choice between Multicharts 6 and NT7b18.
NT7b18 has been running better with some problems fixed but Multicharts really feels rock solid. Multicharts 6 will have connection to the dukascopy API but common, no chart trader ? No dom ? Nothing ? No ordering ? Pfff, what a joke !!!
That's not too hard to program isn't it ? Some buttons who link to an API to fill an order and display it on a chart ?
I agree with you there, I ran MC in parallel with NT7b for a month and really, really started to take to MC but as you have also said, without the basics of order entry/execution I find what is the point. This is where NT shines.
In some ways I wish I had the brain to program as such as so then I would probably rip apart NTs order entry systems and a few other bits and pieces and wack it into MultiCharts to create rebirth platform.
May as well call it MultiNinja for easy marketing, haha :P
Anyone know if there futures.io (formerly BMT) members can obtain a discount for licenses on these licences NT or MC platforms?
Would be good if NT gave futures.io (formerly BMT) members a multibroker licence for the price of a normal licence, as only being able to use one elected broker kinda sux dont you think? Meaning if you wish to change brokers then you need to upgrade.

As for the DOM, yes for sure, it is a big missing feature. But, the rest of the program more than makes up for it. Solid programming, quick fixes, no surprises, everything just works as it should. Still, this is now off-topic so please direct any MultiCharts related posts to the MultiCharts thread here.
