find A platform that works for you (and don't worry about finding THE platform)

Maybe even find the two best platforms that work for you -- because like you said, trying to find the single perfect platform isn't going to happen.

I just love the customer support from MC.
MC still has a long way to be my perfect platform but they are on the way to it. The list what features NT “has” and MC “should have” is getting smaller and smaller. Both platforms are IMHO superb and have their advantages in their features of portfolio backtesting, live trading and account management. Just to say that they are comparable is wrong since it really depends what you are looking for.
I am a stock trader and the portfolio backtester of NT is way behind the port.bt from MC. Might be different when you trade forex … I don’t know. – huge pro MC
End of the summer the 64bit version comes out. So no advantages on NT there - equal
You can put stocks in different categories’ -> pro NT
Code replacement -> pro NT
I want to test an idea with very little code -> pro MC
Charting -> pro MC
Customer support -> huge pro MC
Normal backtesting (I really hate the 32bit restriction of MC 2GB memory) -> gigantic pro NT but I hope this will fall by the end of the summer 2011 with the 64bit version.

Agree with two others when it comes to support. Compared to other companies MultiCharts support is amazing in my experience. They take every request you make very seriously. If they can not help you right away they give you a reply and tell you why. I have never experienced the kind of follow ups and commitment to the request I have made. I have spoken with MC several times. All in all you get the experience of being close to the MC-people. Not as in the opposite where you get the feeling that they are trying to keep you at a distance, or as with some high profiled company where they do not answer your support inquiries or phone calls at all.

- MC is much faster than NT.
- You can have orderly multi time frame setups with MC, which with NT is charts all over the place.... "one can't be exited enough to see in which order the carts will come up on the task bar this time" . This is something several people, including me, have pointed out, but where NT have not followed up with doing something.
- If one are into a lot of charting, like myself, MC will be adding new features which will be in place within about two months. To my opinion this will make MC very robust and work efficient as a charting package also.
- $1,995 for NT multibroker lifetime. $1,997 for MultiCharts lifetime.
- As for automated trading and programming language I am not into that, so can not give you any opinion.

Really? I've tested years of tick data on CL and never approached the 2GB limit with MC or had any problems.

Have to agree with this, as it has been a "to do" for them for a while.

Being able to group charts together under different Tabs, and having multiple Windows each with multiple Tabs, is a good feature that TradeStation had back from the olden days...

From what I have seen on the last Multi Charts webinar, it appears that they want to "kill'' Ninja Trader.
