Good day all, first off I am also a NT8 lifetime license holder, and traded for quite a while on ToS as well, but I recently bought a year of premium on TV and honestly like the platform as whole better than NT8. I really like NT8, dont get me wrong, but TV is a cleaner/simpler interface.

Besides the obvious advantages of automation and backtesting/strategy building... is there a reason to not be using TV for futures as a more or less discretionary trader using simple indicators without any need for automation?

I'm wondering what I'm missing here? There isn't even a subsection on platforms for TV here it seems to be so unpopular among futures traders. Why is this?

I actually use TV for analysis. Got all the stuff you need for just basic membership. But I use CQG desktop for execution. TV doesn't act right with multiple contracts exits.

Everything but the data is good, especially if you only trade futures. The data feed going into TV is aggregated so it can be incorrect/slower vs something like SC where data comes by tick. This can also affect volume profile where volume by tick can be a bit skewed.

most futures traders are scalpers due to leverage and tv data feed is way too slow for that

I started out using TV with the Tradestation connection, however it got really slow. It has definitely gotten better over the years but nothing like NT8 or whichever platform your broker utilizes for fast execution

I would have thought there'd be quite a few people using TV on their MACS

I use TV on my mac for charting ... and NT on my PC for trade execution.

If you're a fast scalper using market orders, TV's execution is too slow. Recently I tried to use TV with Global Prime for CFDs/forex. Often it would take a few seconds between the time I clicked the button and got executed. It felt nearly instantaneous on MT4 and TraderEvolution (GP's house platform). Also in TV I couldn't adjust TP/SL from the chart, which was a big inconvenience (might be a broker specific issue).

If you are a limit order swing trader, TV might work just fine for you.

TradingView does not support tick data, bid/ask traded, momentum execution, market by order, footprint, market depth liquidity

I love Tradingview.

I use it for browsing on the go and keeping track of the vernal market on my other monitor.

Never thought to use it for trading directly from.

Not sure how that works to Be honest. I guess there's a slim range of broker integrations?

I use TV via Tradestation as my tech analysis and execution platform. Execution is faster than expected. The indicator tools are endless and a few of those indicators are exceptional! Of course, by no means have I tested the thousands available, just a few that I like. Time charts are all I use. No exotic charts necessary. Here's a peek at one I posted on my futures.io blog today using the the Fixed Range Volume Profile (recently updated) by TV. Works surprisingly well.
