I looked through many posts and cannot locate my answer. Please help direct me.

I just started to trade Futures. I was told by T or S that I would be able to have data run through NinjaTrader so that I could chart. I set everything up and stocks come through, but no Futures.

I contacted T or S and they said I should have no problem receiving futures data and that everything looked good on their end. However, I was told by NinjaTrader I cannot that T or S does not export Futures data to NinjaTrader. Then they offered to sell me a subscription to Kinetick.

Is anyone else able to chart Futures on Ninja Trader using feed from T or S? I just want the truth and not be sold something. I dont want to trade on Ninja, just chart using the feed.

Hi, I spent almost 6 weeks looking into data feed options with NT and then finally understood Kinetik offering of various plan i.e. 65 usd monthly for a set of instruments. Then after 2 months i realised that i dont trade in all those instruments so switched to a custom data feed directly from NT not Kinetik, i now pay 38 usd per month for selected futures instruments. So get in touch with platformsupport , they will advise you. But dont waste your time looking around other data providers as something or the other wont be available.

Thanks for getting back to me. I thought I was totally abandoned. lol

Friday, I signed up for Kinetic because I just didnt know what to do.

Thirty Eight bucks? WOW! They are charging me almost 100 dollars per month for only a feed to the minis. When i sent an email to the NinjaTrader support people, they said I have to pay both the feed and the basic fee. Sounds like you have a much better price and are getting a better deal? If you have a contact, would you mind sharing? I feel like Rodney Dangerfield.

Thank you

"But don't waste your time looking around other data providers as something or the other wont be available."

I fully agree with this.

The options are not as wide as one might hope when first seeing the few next pages after clicking in here: https://ninjatrader.com/Choice

Cut to the Chase.: For sure the lower cost ( and pretty good ) data provider option for futures is purchasing CQG Continuum directly from NT.

Also honestly ;-) in agreement with honest2021 the next steps are:

1) calling the main NT brokerage phone number
2) asking for Brokerage Customer Support (diff team than runs the big support website)
3) asking the Brokerage Customer Support person to right then and there shut off the current data provider solution and transition you to the NT CQG futures data offering.

Well I heard back from Ninja Trader and the only people they provide the better data feed to is those who open an account. This is what they wrote back;

"Thanks for your note. In order to do this, you will need to open an account with NinjaTrader Brokerage. Once it is approved and funded, you will be able to register for the data feeds you need at the reduced price."

I apologize if I gave bad information to those who responded. I purchased NinjaTrader for charting only.

If you have any other thoughts, please share.

More and more I am upset with NinjaTrader and how they treat people who pay almost 1000 dollars for a license. (just venting) Recently I watched a NinjaTrader webinar selling an indicator for Forex. I purchased it and had issues. In the live trading room I asked a question to the owner. I found out the Vendor who sells it only trades on TradeStation. He told me 'I know very little about NinjaTrader and how it works'. I am out a bunch of money now.

Thanks again.

Signed, frustrated.

I'm very sorry you've had all these problems. I am pretty sure that the fact that ToS only provides stock data to NT, not futures, is widely known -- I knew it, at least, although I can't recall now what source I learned it from, or when. So what ToS told you in the first place was wrong, and while it's not your fault, you embarked on this quest, to use your ToS futures account and data with NT charting, essentially hopelessly.

As to what to do now, you can of course keep your futures trading with ToS or you can leave them, at least for futures. Is there a particularly strong reason you want to stay with ToS for futures trading? It seems an awkward workaround to try to marry the two. Particularly since their data is not better than anyone else's. Of course, if you have your stock trading account there, that would be a reason, but is it enough? (I'm not saying it shouldn't be, but I am raising the question.)

I would also be extremely cautious about buying any third-party indicators, no matter how attractive they seem, without knowing more about them. I don't know anything of course about this particular indicator, but I wonder if in fact the webinar you saw was produced by NinjaTrader, or if it was simply the platform the vendor presented it on. I do not believe that NinjaTrader itself produces webinars for other company's products. In any case, I would not be hasty to buy anything withouit knowing more about it.

I know it's late now for this, because the horse has already left that barn, but it may help in the future.

Another thing in the future is that it may be helpful (and save you some money) to run these kinds of questions through this forum before you leap. Someone might have told you about the data issue, and there may be reviews on the vendor of that indicator, or you could open a review thread on it in the review section and ask people.

Good luck in getting things worked out. There certainly will be a solution, and I hope you find your way to one soon. Keep us advised.

Bob.

Edit: I just saw that you asked the original question in this thread a week ago. Not every question will be answered, but I'm sorry this one went so long.

The questions about staying with ToS are still relevant, though.

I appreciate what you said. Doesnt matter how many times I may have heard it, it only reinforces.

Yes, the webinar is not a NinjaTrader event per se, only a platform for others to sell their indicators. I just wish they would do a better job screening. (Especially after the one webinar in which the vendor said she was "told by god" what to do

Our IRA is with T or S so it would be difficult to switch suddenly. I would love to move it, but have a family member who hates change (if that makes sense) I thought I could help the account grow by trading Futures. I really did try to do diligence with T or S before we left another Broker. They were quite insistent that I was good to go with Futures data feed. They we simply wrong and four other employees didn't know any better.

Thanks for the words.

Bummer.

I am not sure where are exactly at right now so toss anything I write that sounds off.

1) As Bob said TDA/ToS will not let you get futures data or transactive futures via NinjaTrader, ... or the NinjaTrader aggreement with TDA wont let them.. or something but ya no futures from TDA via NT8.

2) In my experience many of the price action of at least some futures are what in this post I will call "fractal", what I mean by that is you can scale down or UP your use of the data as a proxy for a lower time frame.

Where this might be of value to you now is that IF you needed to drop the $100 a month KineTick might be able to use the free end of day (1 bar per day) data they provide to anyone "free for life" for testing strategy ideas that need lower than 1 day time bars.
How
1) The free i bar per day data is already embedded in your client.. In NT8 "Control Center" close other connections and open a connection to "Kinetick End of Day (free). Presto you can know load dally or weekly charts on many symbols.

3) Open the same symbol in ToS in a 1 hour, 2 hour or 4 hour chart and look for consistancy price action. Look to see if using 8 days of the free bars show similar price action to a day's bars on the ToS 1 hour chart. If you find a match then you can use daily bars to loosely test strategies you might really want to run on a one hour.

4) Opening an account with NinjaTrader is not hard, does not cost much, will get you access to cheaper data and if you do not use it at all and pay a $25 sleepy account fee might be a savings over your current situation.

5) Some people have mentioned trading IRAs at Interactive Brokers via NT8. Might research the pros and cons of moving your accounts to IB and then even just the free or low cost IB futures data might be enough for you. You might need the NT8 Multibroker license for this.
