IB TWS can be such rubbish. Why is it that when you start-up TWS and create charts and exit TWS (and even though it says saving settings), when you re-start TWS, the charts you create just reverts to some old charts you do not want. I have manually clicked 'save settings' when closing TWS to ensure settings is saved, but still reverts to the unwanted old charts when you reopen TWS. Why can't the charts just stay the way they were before TWS was closed!!!

Did you try a different installation (beta, latest, stable)?

Hi
I never have that issue. It always brings the last saved workspace. But, no worries, I am not a fan of TWS either. I now use NT8 to chart/trade.

Agree with the above - used the TWS charts for a year and only got annoyed and more annoyed.
I'm now using NT8 with Kinetick for charting (NT8 with IB doesn't work properly because of aggregated data in charts) and execute in TWS. Never had any issue since.

I am deeply considering migration back to IB with NT8 as the analytics piece.

If I am reading this right, you are saying that there is a data issue using IB data to run NT8 charting. This difficulty requires the additional expense of using Kinetick data to populate NT8 charts but no issues executing trades at IB from the NT8 charts. Is that correct?

@NinjaTrader please acknowledge this or address how to better achieve NT8 to IB connectivity.

IB has several methods available for receiving market data through their API. The method NinjaTrader has implemented is their snapshot feed that I believe updates 4 times per second. Alternatively, if a snapshot feed is not acceptable, then you can subscribe to Kinetick.

I think it all boils down to how one trades.

Do you need tick data or minute?
Do you use order flow or volume profile?
Do you use time and sales?

If yes to any of these questions IB will not work for data.

IB is the king IMHO (that's why I use them for my acct with IQFEED data) for many reasons data is not one of them.

Some traders would be completely fine using IB's data. Macro traders come to mind. Swing trading stocks. I'm sure there are a good number of day traders using IB's data and NT8.

As you know this gig is intensely personal.

If you need or want more info from your data you will not be happy with IB's data that much is for sure.
